What have you been reading this week? Any reviews/ratings/recommendations?
QOTW: Now that it's officially fall (in the northern hemisphere anyways), what is your favorite fall-specific thing? (could be an activity, a food, a feeling, whatever)
I finished reading The Madness of Crowds by Louise Penny, 3*. I'm not sure I would have liked the book if it didn't have some of my favorite characters in it. I loved the character interaction of the Three Pines gang, but not the story. I just couldn't get into it. I also finished When Harry Met Minnie by Martha Teichner, 3*. This book caught my eye while grocery shopping. It is fast read that made me feel a full range of emotions. I'm currently reading The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle.
QOTW: The clothes and the weather. I love being able to pull out my sweaters and jeans. I also love taking walks on cool crisp mornings.
I finished Man Enough: Undefining My Masculinity by Justin Baldoni. Decent but unnecessarily long. Now I’m reading Animal by Lisa Taddeo. I hate her writing style but I’m intrigued by the protagonist/storyline.
QOTW: What don’t I love about fall? My wedding anniversary and birthday are during fall. I love leaf-peeping, cooler weather, going to the pumpkin patch, etc.
My Sweet Girl by Amanda Jayatissa (I liked the idea but the end was really bad)
White Smoke by Tiffany D. Jackson (very good but ended so abruptly I thought it didn’t download properly)
Surviving Dirty John by Debra Newell (filled in some blanks from the podcast)
Forever Young by Hayley Mills (highly recommend for anyone interest in that era of Hollywood or the film scene in England)
Burnt Toast and Other Disasters by Cal Peternell (essays and recipes, I loved his last book but this one was bad, I didn’t believe he’d actually make some of this food-something his kid points out at one point)
Agatha of Little Neon by Claire Luchette (nun drama)
Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll (blah)
Fault Lines by Emily Itami (interesting!)
Practice to Deceive by Ann Rule (very dated seeming despite being fairly recent)
I have like 10 books out for the Kindle and they keep coming. I’m a little overwhelmed!
QOTW:
I really don’t love fall but I do like it being nice enough for me to sit outside in my hammock or work outside. Good for getting reading done.
I’m reading What’s Done in Darkness by Laura McHugh — mystery/thriller, interesting enough but not amazing.
QOTW: apple picking! Our favorite orchard is a relatively small family business, so it’s laid back and peaceful, plus the prices are excellent. We go every couple of weeks in the season, and then I’m sad when apples are done.
I listened to Nothing To See Here by Kevin Wilson. I really enjoyed the audio version of this. I’m not sure I would have liked reading it as much. 4/5 stars
I currently have 2 more audiobooks going. I just started both so no comment yet.
QOTW: I love October/fall. It’s the beginning of the holiday season in my mind and just makes me feel excited. I love baking, fires, layers, Halloween, thanksgiving, football, cool weather. I love it all.
Earlier this week I read A Children's Bible by Lydia Millet in one day (practically one sitting). It's not terribly long but I also found it hard to put down. It's a pretty dark and had some weird twists but it's definitely stuck with me.
Now I am reading All the Stars and Teeth by Adalyn Grace. It's your standard fantasy adventure book with just a mild love triangle. I might finish it tonight and so far will plan on reading the sequel.
QOTW: I love the change in the air. The humidity is dying out and there's a crispness to it. I also love the smell of leaves after they fall.
Currently reading Project Hail Mary. I'm HOOKED. Lol. It's funny and just fascinating. I'm almost halfway done!
I like the early fall weather, the sweatshirt type weather. And the colors. I love all the changing leaves! But hate when they're gone and it gets cold 😭
Finished: In Five Years It was marketed as a romance, but it definitely wasn't. Lots of plot holes and timelines that didn't add up. I was thinking halfway through it was going to be better than it was.
QOTW: Give me all the pumpkins! I love going to a pumpkin patch.
