I’ve been thinking about a leather couch for my formal living room. I’m pretty much the only one that sits in there; I use it as a reading room. I just bought a big, comfy chair but we also need a new couch.
I wanted this one and had a swatch sent. I barely touched it and it scratched. Is that part of the look?

It is part of the look based on what type of leather you get. We ordered 2 leather chairs from Arhaus and went in the store and the sales associate who helped us showed us leathers that did not show wear as much and that is what we chose. Some of the softer leathers scratched very easily and were not the look we were going for.
Nice couch! I think that kind of leather is meant to do that and look aged. There are other forms of more polished leather that are supposed to be more new-looking.
The description says that the Cognac colour will scuff and patina well, so if that is your preferred colour than I imagine it will scratch easily, and is meant to do so as part of the look.
We’ve had leather couches that have a more solid surface that doesn’t scratch at all, unless you really gouge into them. It really depends on the softness of the leather treatment.

Thanks, all. Yes this particular leather seems to be really soft. It feels nice but I am a little too type-a to have a scratched up couch, I think. The search continues!

We have Leather couches from RH. They do scratch, but the oils in your fingers are enough to buff them out. They are a bit pricy but well worth it as ours are going on 7 years old and still look new and have only gotten more comfortable.
