We are buying a new construction home. It should be done 11/3 and then there is a 2 week period where we can get it inspected, do our final walk through and finalize our loan. So we could get keys on 11/17ish
My question; how far out should I schedule movers? In a perfect world, I’d like to move the weekend before Thanksgiving. Is it too early to book now in case there’s a hiccup?
I currently rent, and I am thinking of giving 11/30 as the move out date just to have some breathing room and to allow time to clean up the rental.
I would start calling now, and tell them what your timeframe is. We moved in late June, and finding/booking available movers was really difficult.
Thanks! I worry about this and it being close to Thanksgiving too. I used a company 2 years ago that I’d like to use again so it doesn’t hurt to ask them.

Yeah I would call now too. If they tell you they aren't booking yet for late Nov. they can at least tell you when they expect to be booking then, but I would think most places would be booking for then now.
We booked slightly over a month out over the summer, and the 3 places I called were all relieved I wasn't wanting them in the next 2-3 weeks because that was when they were totally booked for.

Definitely now. We did a short term move for my husband’s job this past summer and the movers said it was the busiest they have been in 20 years. Everyone put off moves due to Covid so they are booking like crazy now.

Call Now and get your spot booked and be sure about the date. Ours was going to be a pain if we had moved it out two weeks due to my husband being sick, however we would have lost our deposit and had to rebook with a new deposit. We moved forward with the original move date and got it done quickly, but it was something I should have asked about before hand.

Glad you called asap. Also, I’ve done the overlap thing on several moves, and it is SO worth the extra rent to avoid being rushed (Obviously easier when it’s a local move). Definitely recommend.
I always try to requests quotes from the moving companies few weeks in advance. The fees vary a lot. This way i can compare prices and make my choice in advance. Also saved uhaul phone number in my phone book, cause they've been the best movers so far.
