I finished The Spanish Love Deception which was a bookstagram favorite this summer.
It was too long and desperately needed an editor. I guess the author is a bookstagrammer and her BFFs told her to self publish. Ok, but even if I'm your friend, I'm going to tell you when you've used "he" instead of "her" in the book.
Then at the end there was this jumble of other events and it was so weird. 2*
I think I'm in a rut. It was not a good week. I DNF The 7½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton and The Light of Days: The Untold Story of Women Resistance Fight by Judy Batalion. I did finish The Invisible Husband of Frick Island by Colleen Oakley, 3*. This is one of those books that you can see Hallmark turning into a movie- cutesy and sappy. It's not the type of book I usually like, but it wasn't bad. I'm currently reading The Woman with the Blue Star by Pam Jenoff.
QOTW: Both, but if I had to pick I'd pick an apple orchard.
Earlier this week I finished Have We Met? by Camille Baker. I don't generally read romance but it was a Kindle first a while back and I thought the premise was interesting. I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would although it did of course wind up with your typical ending.
Now I am reading Horseman: A Story of Sleepy Hollow by Christina Henry. I generally like her books and I think this is will be perfect for October.
QOTW: Orchard for sure, especially if they have cider or cider donuts!
I started Pack Up the Moon by Kristan Higgins. It's a depressing subject, so I'm not too excited about it.
QOTW: Apple orchard because we don't have any here, and I've been hearing for years about cider donuts, which I would love to try.
I was excited about cider doughnuts until I realized they were cake doughnuts which makes me sad. Depending on your own doughnut preference this fact will either make you feel better or worse about your lack of doughnut access. lol
I'm still working on Project Hail Mary. I'm just fascinated by it. And I'm not smart enough to know if the science stuff checks out, but it seems good to me haha. I've been fighting a migraine for days now so I haven't been reading as much!
I didn’t finish anything this week except thousands of pages of stuff for work… though I am reading bits and pieces when I can of Why We Swim by Bonnie Tsai, and I’m liking it a lot. My aunt sent me an interesting looking Carl Sagan book earlier this week and I also hope to crack that one of these days.
I’ll say apple orchard because I don’t actually eat much with pumpkin in it. The best places have both apples and pumpkins though! 😛
I’m reading Southern Book Clubs guide to Slaying Vampires and listening to Small Fry by Lisa Brennan-Jobs
The changes in scenes in the Southern Book Club are jarring, but I think that’s the point, still a bit much at times though. Small Fry has had a few surprising stories, but decent so far.
QOTW: I haven’t been to an apple orchard, so I guess that, since I could take or leave a pumpkin patch.
I just finished Sprinting Through No Man’s Land: Endurance, Tragedy, and Rebirth in the 1919 Tour de France by Adin Dobkin. I wanted to like it, but it was dry and disjointed and I forced myself to power through to finish. That said, it was interesting to read about some of the insane rules about the Tour from those easy rules and the middle of the night start times they had. The 11 cyclists who finished the grueling race were incredible, persevering athletes who accomplished a near inhuman feat.
QOTW: Both! If I have to pick one, probably a pumpkin patch.
I’m reading Record of a Spaceborn Few by Becky Chambers. I really like this series, though this one is a little slower than the first two.
QOTW: apples, no question. We are going to pick our favorite apple variety today. Our usual orchard has a pumpkin patch also, but that’s no where near as fun as walking through the trees.
I am reading Where the Green Grass Grows. It's ridiculous but that's part of the appeal. So far I like it fine.
QOTW: Where I live neither. It's still 90 degrees. We have on pumpkin patch near by but it's super lame and overly crowded. We went once. We don't have apple orchards. I feel like fall in general would be much more enjoyable somewhere else.
