I walked out my door to take the dog out to pee and there was a pile of dog shit in the middle of our sidewalk. Maybe 2 feet from the door. WTF?! We have never not picked up our dog shit since moving, but it appears to be a statement piece.
great…. I have one of those neighbors, that can’t even get it right.
edit, I’m kind of spiraling on this… there is one neighbor potentially something enough to do this. Like we heard him cursing put a neighbor 4 houses away because a leaf fell in his yard. We clearly identified him as a bit off and won’t even let the dog walk in his grass when we go by on the sidewalk. Most everyone else is 65+, and it just doesn’t seem their style.
Edit again: H is now contemplating if he missed one somewhere. Unlikely, as there are bags attached to the leash. But, I suppose it’s possible. 🤷♀️
Someone tried to steal my neighbor's catalytic converter last week. I can get a protective shield installed by a local muffler shop for $250. fml.
rubytue- I had a neighbor storm out of her house to glare at me when I walked by with my dog yesterday. I always clean up after my dog and don't let him walk on people's lawns but she clearly was big mad. They really shouldn't live in an urban area.

That's is a neighborhood next to mine where so many houses have signs telling you that dogs are not allowed on their lawns (including the strip between the sidewalk and road). It always seems so intense.

We have a lot of those signs too. I do let my dog walk/sniff on the strip between the sidewalk and the road. Sometimes he pees because he's a dog. I know people get pissy but, to me, it's part of living in a city. On my block, there are 14 homes, 1 business, and an apartment complex.
We have the camera. H is finally ready to install it. And the new motion flood light I just ordered. 😂
And the guy who yells about leaves has a bunch of keep off lawn sign. So yeah, she doesn’t walk on that lawn. But, she’s a dog. Call me a terrible neighbor, but we do let her walk in yards some. Mostly, we try to keep on the community trails and grasses. We even circle the community areas if she hasn’t pooped, because I don’t want her pooping in yards (plus, there are trash cans along the trail and I don’t want to bring home poop 😂). Really, the logistics are great for dog business not in yards. Which is why we don’t think we messed up, but maybe we did… shit happens.
I just tried to ship two boxes through USPS today. I spent an hour and went to multiple post offices because they weren't open according to the posted hours.
And do you know why they weren't open? Because it's a fucking federal holiday and I am a ding dong. Ugh!!!
I’m going to run a client through a webinar training session soon - the client is based in France. I don’t speak any French. I’ve only ever emailed the client and from their emails it’s obvious that they clearly understand English, although the language in the emails is very formal rather than conversational.
I have a few colleagues who speak French as a second language. Is it rude of me to reply to a recent email with “ps, I have a colleague who speaks French if you’d like me to invite them onto the training session.” I want the client to feel comfortable and for the training to be clear, but I don’t want to imply that their English is bad (especially since, again, I don’t speak French so I’m absolutely not in a position to be judgey).
I noticed last week that Google Flights has added emissions to it's search results. Each flight shows as average or X% higher or lower than average. I'm not sure how much difference it will make to people's habits in general but I guess it can't hurt to include. I'd like to think that if I was looking at two flights that were similar in time and price, I would pick there more efficient one.
Maps also shows which driving route is the most fuel efficient.

Thanks for posting about this - I’m all for it! So glad this topic is becoming more mainstream and reaching a wider audience.

One of my coworkers is still reasonably new and forgot we didn't get Columbus Day off like his last company did so he almost just didn't come to work today.

I have two.
We're going to Puerto Rico soon. I have had the following conversation with my mom 4 times now in about 3-4 months.
Mom: do they use dollars or pesos there?
Me: they're a US territory so US dollars
Mom: well, I still have some pesos from our last trip to Mexico if you want them for your trip
Me: they don't use pesos
Mom: but they speak Spanish?
Me: Yes. And English.
Mom: ??
Me: *headdesk*
And my other one... I got my mom hooked on Jane the Virgin. I knew she'd love it and they don't have Netflix so I bought her the DVDs for mother's day or her birthday or something like a year and a half ago. The final season wasn't out yet then. Friday night at dinner basically the first thing she said was "I need more Jane the Virgin.... I need to know how it ends!!!"

Every year my mom is just shocked that I don't have off for Columbus Day. I have not had off for Columbus Day since high school. Still, it's a surprise to her every year.
Our security cameras caught people who were walking by with their dog positioning their dog under our animatronic spider and taking their picture.
In other news, I'm quitting my job and going to work for a friend and her company. Which, funnily enough, is what several in my department have done in the last few months. (To be really clear, different friends/companies, lol!)

That’s exciting!! Congratulations on the change, it seems like you’ve been looking for a while.

Thanks! I have been looking for a while, and was getting really down on myself/feeling unemployable.

I felt this way the majority of last year and also found my current job through a personal connection/networking. It’s worked out well for me and I hope you find the same success!
After the poop annoyance this morning, we spent the rest of the day working on design aspects of the sunroom we are rebuilding. Oh I need a an HGTV designer to show up with 3 options. I was sooooo drained when we got home.
We have a family Zoom call every Saturday night, and somehow we landed on a topic that allowed my mother-in-law to start talking about how she can only deduct $10k of the property taxes she pays on the two million-dollar homes she owns in Southern California. When I referred to that as a "rich-people problem" she tried to claim she was middle class.
I would say this Christmas is going to be awkward, but last year I called her out for using anti-Semitic tropes, so...

I ended up going to urgent care today because I’ve been having chest pains. Everything heart related checked out, as I kind of expected but still relieving to hear. They think it’s acid reflux or a small ulcer. WTF. I turned 40 last month and all of a sudden my body is like “ok great, I’m done now. K. k.”
Our neighbor knocked on our door this morning to ask us if one of our cats had gotten out. Cue complete freak out! Even though I had just seen the cat in question upstairs (he was micromanaging the scooping of the litter boxes, lol). Still, H ran up to check and I immediately put my shoes on to go outside, but he was chilling in the office like, "what?"
So apparently there is another orange cat in the neighborhood 😅
And it's nice to know our neighbors are nice and caring enough that they would let us know if they saw one of our cats outside.
My heart has not settled down, but that's probably more because of the nachos I ate to comfort my frazzled nerves 🙃
Got a 7 day trial for Apple+ to watch Ted Lasso (Season 1 Awesome, Season 2 Very Good). I actually ended up enjoying the first season of the Morning Show more than I expected.
But my random - I hate the intro credits (of The Morning Show). I don't think I've ever hated credits before but the song is so uncatchy, and the graphics are like a fucking sledge hammer and they're so long. And I'm usually a fan of credits. I'll rewatch the credits to the West Wing and Mad Men and What we do in the shadows every fucking time, but these ones just make me want to throw things.
“With sorrow—for this Court, but more, for the many millions of American women who have today lost a fundamental constitutional protection—we dissent,”

Way too invested in this.
OMG, I cannot stand watching the morning show credits. They are awful. It's like nails on a chalkboard to me. My H teases me about it. Glad to hear I'm not the only one, haha.
Neighborhood drama non-update. The only guy we think is angry enough to do the poop thing was blowing his leaves, and all the leaves on his sidewalk and the street across the street and into his neighbor’s yard.
Also, the house behind his house has new owners, who have two small dogs. 95% chance he found small dog poop in his back yard and then walked it 4 door down to dump on our sidewalk.
I really want to go knock on his door and ask him if he did it, and how did he make the assumption it was us. But, rational heads prevail. This guy is a big unhinged from what we have seen.

City resident here. You don't want dogs to pee/poo on your parkway (that you technically don't own)? Put a fence up.
Note, if someone's taken the time to plant flowers or enhance their parkway, we will do our best to avoid it. But a plain patch of grass with a giant "no poop here" sign? GTFO.
Blargh. Work situation is super crappy. Mandatory overtime starts on Thursday (6 days a week, 12 hours a day, for some as yet determined schedule). Frustrated by the lack of pay increase. Grand scheme of things, it's probably only been delayed by a couple months, but it'll be a couple months after losing out on that rate for overtime starting this week. (they are at least going to pay overtime hours, even though I'm exempt)
A position elsewhere in the company was posted today. I'd be a shoe-in for it. (I have worked with a couple of the team members there, and multiple folks would put in a good word for me.) It's at the higher pay grade, even. Wouldn't avoid the overtime situation hitting soon, but not much other than quitting would. It would be a major change of pace - right now I'm working in engineering world. That position is focused more on technical education. I've got the background and skillset to do either, and I'm hard pressed to say which I would prefer. The other job would be less technical, and probably wouldn't include as much overtime (as in, it probably wouldn't expect me to work more than 40 hours per week often), while my current position definitely has an expectation of more than 40 hours most weeks. I like the technical aspect of my current job, and I'm damn good at it. I get nervous as all get-out when teaching classes, which would be part of the other job, but it's something I've faced and handled a multitude of times before, and generally the students are happy with the training. The breadth of my background helps me in both jobs - I'm an engineer that can communicate, and I'm a tech instructor that can understand the tech behind what I'm teaching.
The job will be posted for at least a week, but with the mandatory overtime starting on Thursday, I pretty much have to decide and take steps tomorrow, or pass on it.
