I've googled, I've asked 2 CPAs that I work with, no one seems to have any idea what's happening. I opted out of the advance tax credit, so only DH is receiving it in advance. So far he's gotten:
$167 $200 $250 $333
Nothing has changed with our income; we haven't filed amended or delayed/extension returns, there are no changes in our account transcript that explain what could be happening.
Is this happening to anyone else? I know it doesn't really *matter*, and we'll true up when I file next spring, but I like predictability, lol.

I’ve heard of this happening but our amount is always the same. It it’s a dollar or so off I can see that possibly relating to the amount of days in the month or rounding up /down if the amount isn’t wholly divisible but IDK why yours is so different each month.
This month ours went from $700 too $233. No idea why and I’m not investigating. Seems like a huge hassle right now. I realize we are lucky we don’t need the money every month. I figure it will get worked out at tax time. It’s so weird.
Ours is supposed to be $500. We didn’t get the July payment but in August and September we got $600. We didn’t get October and the portal says our eligibility is pending
We got a letter that I think said ours would be $333. Instead it's been $400, $225, $225, $192. I haven't tried to understand, I just dump it into the same account where I keep the money for my quarterly estimated taxes and property taxes. Pretty sure it won't end up being mine to keep.
I couldn't figure out why we were still getting the payment after we opted out. After some investigation it looks like we both need to opt out, not sure why it took me four or five months to figure this out.
Thanks for all the replies. It actually makes me feel a lot better to know this isn't just me.
gt7301b, I was surprised by this, too. When I opted out, there was a message that I had to opt DH out separately, and I just - I don't know, it hadn't occurred to me that the IRS even considered us two different people. LOL.
Lol, we’ve only gotten one payment, and it was a direct deposit last week for $392. The website has never let us opt out or even check our eligibility(always kicks back an error), so I have no idea what’s going on.
DH decided after watching me try and get into the system that he wasn't going to spend the time trying to opt out separately. So we'll let the chips/credits? fall when we file.

Yes! It’s so random. Last month we got DD for a portion and check in the mail a few days later. I can’t remember the amount but know it didn’t equal $300.
