You aren't planning a move based upon one traumatic weekend. You are planning a move based upon a lifetime of love and connection with your family. ((mskitkat))
mskitkat , how scary! I’m glad (hope?) she’s ok. And no, it is not crazy. An event like that can really put life into perspective. I had a similar life changing event and it really made me reevaluate my priorities (spoiler: work wasn’t it).
I had a really traumatic weekend, and now I’m planning on moving to Chicago. Is it crazy to plan a move 12 hours away based on one traumatic weekend? (Sister almost died. I have the same condition. Life is too short to live far away from family because of something as transitory as a job).
My brother suddenly passed away this summer. My sister and her husband lived in Nevada. They sold their house, packed everything into PODS and are currently living with me in MN until they find a house.
My brother passed on 7/18. They arrived here on 9/3.
audette I hope you're getting adequate training for doing manual tasks. The situation sounds really dangerous from an EHS standpoint.
right? do you WANT a bunch of workers comp claims? because this sounds like how you get a bunch of workers comp claims...
Oh, I assume there will be some workers comp claims. I already know of one coworker that dislocated a rib last week. She was put on a 10 lb weight restriction for a day and a half. Not sent home to rest and recover... Just a "here's some ibuprofen, now back out there for you"...
Hell, I'm trying to figure out when I can get a covid booster shot - I also end up interacting with more people daily now, because of this, and few, if any, wear masks. I mean, I kinda understand that, much of the work is most than 6 feet away from folks, but not all of it is, and most folks don't bother when they have to spend extended time near someone. It's not fun wearing a mask doing this sort of physical work, I get it. It sucks. But, it can be done. Even my out of shape ass is doing it...
We had _some_ training. I'm sure enough that, if needed, the company can say they trained us. But, like someone else posted, every day this continues, we stand to lose more and more workers. Bonuses are expected to be fairly substantial this year, and they are paid out just before Christmas. If this is still going on at that point, I suspect many folks will have an exit strategy for just after they get their bonus. No clue as to timeline. It's due to forces beyond my control, so I have no clue when it will end. Could be tomorrow, could be next summer. We close on our house next week. I'm not sure I have it in me to stick it out once all that financial stuff is done - quitting won't negatively impact the purchase and loan at that point, and we can cover out bills with DH's income.
I overdid it on electrolytes yesterday. I'm sweating buckets, because, well, I'm working my ass off. And last week I was cramping up because of insufficient electrolytes. Feast or famine, I guess... I hope I struck a better balance on them today.
Does anybody wear fun socks? Or does your spousal unit wear fun socks? Like trouser/dress sock style socks. With whimisical things or pretty patterns. Where do you buy them? I want new socks. I want them to be fun socks. But I also want them to be comfy good quality socks that don't overly squeeze my calves or fall down or fall apart in 3 washes.
wawa, I have heard good things about the Happy Socks brand. I have a few pairs from a brand called Blue Q that I find in random stores - mostly a local one and Paper Source that are funny/sarcastic/etc. Both of these are also available on Amazon but I know many people try to avoid shopping there.

I like Bombas merino wool socks. They have all of patterns, Disney, and Sesame Street for adults.

I exclusively wear Smartwool socks now. They last me years (I don't really keep track, but I know I still have some that were given to me in 2013), they are comfy, and they have a lot more patterns now, some of which I would describe as fun.

omg the blue q socks! thank you!
these neeeeeeeeeeeed to be mine.
My bookstore has socks like these in dozens of styles. I feel like a bigger, independent or chain bookstore with gift shop-y offerings usually carries fun socks.
I got a second opinion today. This guy does think it is a shoulder injury (posterior labrum tear) and ordered another MRI with contrast this time. I'm also going to get another type of xray for my neck. You guys- I have been fucking miserable since January 2020. Some of my initial symptoms point directly to this but when it was clear that it wasn't my rotator cuff any shoulder injury was ignored. I've taken nerve pain medications that were horrible. I have a follow up in a couple of weeks. I'm a bit conflicted. I'm really glad it might not be a nerve injury but omfg, I could have been healed already.
pixy0stix- <3 Thank you. It sounds like a relatively simple surgery; definitely better than rotator cuff surgery. But it requires 4-6 weeks in a sling and another few weeks of PT. I have no idea how long it'll take to get surgery scheduled. I know it's so much better than having a spine or neural issue but dammit.
And today I get to go to Occupational Health, so I can document some hand and wrist issues that seem to have cropped up in the last few days. Not surprising, all considered. I've moved, by hand, about 5 tons of stuff, twice. My current assignment is stupidly physical...
Oh, and someone tailed me most of the way home last night from work. I noticed them partway home, and once I realized they were following me, I turned off and headed away from where I live (and towards the local PD station). They turned off into a church parking lot not long after I turned off. I noticed them weaving a bit at one point, so I assume my car's details have been noted. DH suggested I take his car today (it has military vanity plates), but I don't really feel like having someone able to take note of _both_ of our vehicles, and his is the newer of our two. Now I get to worry about vandalism the next time I take my car somewhere other than work. Yay.
raangoli, all 3 of us did flu shots and we each got a $5 off $20.
mskitkat, my sister unexpectedly passed away in April 2019. My parents moved closer to us almost a year ago. For me, it's 100% worth having them closer.
I've felt like I've had something in my left eye since Monday. I could also see a white speck on my iris. Wearing contacts helped by, I guess, creating a barrier between my eye and eyelid, but the feeling came back when I wore glasses and I would wake up with my eye crusty.
Anyway, I went to the eye doctor today and it was, indeed, something embedded in my cornea. She said, "I can try to remove it, but if the cornea has started to grow over it I'll need to send you to a cornea specialist." Anyway, she numbed my eye and then took a tool and got it out, which was terrifying, but now I feel totally better and just need to use antibiotic drops for 5 days.
And now I'm off to get my Pfizer booster, although I very much contemplated canceling and going somewhere else to get a Moderna shot instead.

The super bougie grocery store in my city has lots of fun socks.
Today was our 16th anniversary. We went apple picked and then to a farm brewery. Is was a nice afternoon. But, it’s now 9pm and H has gone to bed. In the guest bedroom, where he has been for all but one night in the past two months. A week or so ago, we talked about this and I mentioned it made me feel like he was just a roommate, and… no change.
