After a year in our new home, we are finally getting around to painting our dining room and adjacent play room. Hosting Thanksgiving this year, so getting it done just in time!
Here’s current playroom (kids toys and mess conveniently cropped out of frame):
I’m thinking of pulling the orangy red/burnt orange color from the carpet for the walls. Definitely need a darker color since my toddler loves to color on the walls. 🙄
This is the other main artwork in that room:
And here’s our dining room. Currently has blue lagoon dining chairs that match the playroom couch, but might be getting replaced with inherited antique wooden cane back chairs that fit around the table better, so I want to bring in more color. Thinking a light blue or greenish grey? Also ignore dining room light, also replacing that at some point.
Here’s the BM colors that I’ve pulled from the room:
I’m liking Audubon Russet, Palladian Blue, and Wedgewood Gray, but open to more suggestions!
Greenish gray for sure! I like the Castle Walls color in the image shown. I painted our kitchen cabinets BM Rockport Gray at my friend's suggestion and I really like it. It's a warm, taupe, mushroom gray that is just dark enough.
I love the Palladian Blue & Wedgewood Gray. For the rust color I like Cinnamon & Savannah Clay, which show as a little darker & a little lighter as shades on their website. I feel like there might be a tad too much brown in Audubon Russet & it seems a little off to me, but it might just be my computer. www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/color-overview/find-your-color/color/hc-51/audubon-russet?color=HC-51

Ooh, I’m really liking Cinnamon! Thanks for that suggestion!
Do the rooms open to one another? I love your rug and I have a rust colored rug like that and burnt orange couch + navy walls in my living room. I will say, rust on the walls in that room will make it quite dark. If those rooms open to one another, I would lean towards putting the dramatic/saturated color in the dining room and sticking w/neutral in the playroom.
Update! The painters were able to fit us in this week! 🎉
My 8 year old vetoed all my “rust” colors, and since the den is primarily the kids play room, I figured I’d give him some say.
Went with Wedgewood Gray (really blue green) in the dining room: (still moving around furniture and chairs since we need to expand the table to seat 10 for thanksgiving)
And Brewster Gray in the den:
Love the den with a pared down collection of toys! We’ll see how long that lasts. 🤣
And here’s one of the chairs (out of 8) that I inherited from my grandparents, via my dad. It coordinates pretty well! Still love my blue chairs for every day use, but I’ll totally use these chairs when we host big dinners since I can fit more around the table. I’m nervous about the rattan seat holding up with daily use by my crazy kids. Good thing we have a huge attic for storage!

Thanks! I love that color too. I love your blue chairs! We currently have wooden IKEA chairs with cheap $5 IKEA cushions. Even though the kids are 10 and 13 they still manage to spill food on there regularly so I don't know if we are ready for those kind of chairs, but they do look very stylish and comfy.
I think our blue chairs have held up so well partly because the kids almost never eat at this table since we have a table in the kitchen too. Dining room is more for homework, games, etc. And apparently holidays now that we have the biggest house out of our immediate families! Big change from our two bedroom nyc apartment!
