I prefer the length of the previous shutters, but the new ones aren't bad. I'm not the biggest fan of shutters, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
I’m the same as icedcoffee. I saw nothing wrong w the second until I studied it to see the difference. Had you not said too short, I wouldn’t have notice. Looks great!
An architect friend if mine beat into me that fake shutters should be sized like real, working shutters would, which means pretend they closed over the window and should cover the whole window. So yeah, I’m in the too short camp.
Edit: Now that I’m thinking about it, I’m not 100% sure it was about the trim at the top and bottom vs little narrow shutters on wide windows. Hmmm. I always thought it was about the trim, but lessel’s picture is making me question myself.
You know what the funny thing is? We held up the new shutter next to the old one, it’s it’s only like an inch difference in height. I have no idea how that is possible LOL
And rubytue I’ve always gone by the “fake shutters look like they should cover the window” rule but thought it was based on the window size like lessel, and when I Google I’m seeing both options. I’m so confused
I think what might be making them look shorter than they really are is just the new color. You no longer have white window trim on white siding. I think if you left the old shutters up there and painted, the sizing might have still stood out more.

I think this is probably true. I bet if you put the old ones back up, they'd still look short. The difference can't be very much.
I think the boxes on the new ones is what is making them look shorter. The shape doesn’t line up with the shape of the windows so the scale reads as off.
But I think they look fine and I like shutters that look like they could be functional over the novelty sized ones that were popular for a while there.
Without reading I thought “oh that looks better” and then after I read I thought they were too short and now I can’t unsee it.
So..if already ordered and installed leave it. If you can still change I’d go longer.
This, exactly.
Sidebar, where did you order your shutters? We’re adding some to our house as part of a new porch project and I don’t know where to begin.
Re: where to order shutters. I admittedly didn't do much research, outside of getting a local estimate that replacing my 1980s wood shutters with new wood shutters was astronomically expensive. (We have 10 sets of shutters on the front face of our house.) I went to this site and got vinyl: www.architecturaldepot.com/ In hindsight I should have found middle ground in cost between vinyl and wood and went with PVC maybe. A slightly more sturdy shutter that allegedly lasts a bit longer. But the vinyl ones we bought are pretty good and should last us a good while. I also used the installation bits that are hidden behind the shutters vs. the one you drill into the shutter and then cap it off.
