Does anyone watch this show? I watched the new episode last night about "Extreme Bodies." One lady had her entire body tatted up including her face, teeth implants, huge gauged lobes, mohawk dread locks, and horn implants.
It turns out that she is a domestic violence survivor; her former husband had broken a radio over her head and beat the shit out of her while her children watched. She said that she did all those modifications to her body to represent how strong she is- jaguar teeth, the hair do of the Amazons, and gauges like the Aztecs.
Then a lady (I think she is a sociologist) was saying that people sometimes get pierced and tattooed as if to say, "Look how strong I am. You can't take this much pain, but I can." I thought it kind of hit home with me emotionally.
Ironically, I had already planned to get a new piercing today. Ha.

I watched one not too long ago about people with a balloon fetish. This guy got completely sad when a balloon would pop, like he lost a friend or partner. Yikes.
Interesting... I can somewhat relate because I am also a DV survivor and it has taken me a good while to learn how to take back my power and strength. It is a process that I am still working on but more so for the inside.
Mine is probably manifested physically in my home, I took out all of my previous décor and made it my own without the help of another person or worrying about what another person think and be confident and like what I put together. This made me feel like I am trying to convert my pain into something beautiful to say that I am out winning it. Beauty is all in the eye of the beholder and is different for everyone. My home now has a lot of aqua and red colors as accents which is completely different than before which was all nature colors.
A friend of mine who is also a DV survivor became a black belt in karate. That was her way of saying she is now strong and easily can defend for herself.

I missed this episode, but I definitely want to see it. I got my belly button pierced as a divorce present to myself, so I can relate (though to a much smaller degree).
I watched the one earlier in the day about the guys who basejump and are addicted to the adrenaline rush. I saw some similarities in him to ex-husband and how he was always chasing the next thrill.
