I've been tossing around the idea of going to Disney World in Feb (my kids are off the week of Presidents Day) and am starting to think more about it now that I know my older kids will be vaxxed. I have 4 kids (9, 7, 4, 2) and we would drive from MI and stay off property. I'm not looking for this to be their "big" trip, but I'd like to use it as a time to get our feet wet and see what we like and then go all out in a few years.
Has anyone been there around this time? If it's insanely busy, I wouldn't be opposed to taking them out of school a bit early the week before to beat the crowds. I'm thinking 4-5 park days would be what we could handle (either half days or maybe 3/4 day, definitely not open to close). What itinerary would you choose?
DH and I haven't been there since we were much younger (probably 25 years ago for me), so I kind of don't know what I'm doing.
Any ideas for a good, cost friendly place to stay for a family of 6?
For a family of 6 I would stay off property. We are a family of 5 and making the jump to off property this year. We are renting a home on VRBO.
I would do two days MK, one Epcot, one either HS or AK. One pool day.
Woops see you are already saying off property. I would look at Windsor hills or Windsor island. Windsor island is newer and farther away but I got a brand new house that is beautifully decorated, small private pool, and it has a community pool, water park, arcade, restaurant, etc for $1800 for 7 night. It’s 5 bedrooms which is more that we need but most homes are 4-5 bedrooms.
We really liked February! President’s Day and the weekend before it was super busy. The days after it were much more reasonable but there were TONS of people from Louisiana. I think the timing was Mardi Gras when we went and literally everyone must rent out their houses and go to Disney! Literally half the parks were in some kind of Louisiana/Saints/Mardi Gras attire.
I hear the first two weeks of March are pretty great too.

We haven't been in Feb, but our usual time is in Jan and I love it! I think it's the perfect time to go. It's after the holidays and before spring break. The weather isn't too hot (though sometimes it can get cold, this coming from a Minnesotan!). I would think Feb would be similar! We're considering going early 2022 but it all depends on covid numbers and/or if my almost 4 year old can be vaccinated before then. We'd probably go Jan or Feb!
As for how to do the parks, we've always done breakfast at the hotel and then headed over, and stayed pretty late. We usually do a day per park, then on Animal Kingdom day we go back to Epcot or MK (usually MK) to do anything we missed or do things again. We never go back to the hotel during the day or even bring our swimsuits for the pool, haha. Usually on our arrival day we go to Disney Springs and wander around but that would also work for going to the pool and such (depending on arrival time).
I think President's Day week can actually be very busy, and also Mardi Gras week. Lots of schools in the south are off for Mardi Gras.
We went first week in March and it worked out great for us.
Good point, looks like Mardi Gras is March 1 so we would avoid it. I know some kids (including mine) are off for mid winter break, but most districts around us have eliminated the week long break.
We went mid January 2020 for a week. It was cold, like my kids in their heavy winter jackets with hats and mittens cold. It warmed up toward the end of the week, but definitely not pool weather. I'd guess that February would be similar.
We're going for President's Week this year. I just booked our plane tickets. Holy hell are flights expensive now! But I feel much calmer now that's settled and I can start getting excited for our trip. All our previous trips were in may, so it will be nice not to have to worry about heat and humidity. Hopefully the crowds won't be too bad.

I’ve been there during the Disney Princess Half (this year Feb 24-27). It’s busier than late Jan/early Feb but it isn’t terrible. The lines were longer mostly due to fewer staff/shorter park hours. Weather was variable-some days it was 80 and others it was in the low 60s. But beats the boiling hot of summer.
If you will be there on the Sunday race day I would avoid Epcot before noon. The race finished through there and is a bit disruptive. That weekend was definitely more crowded in general, but everyone cleared out Sunday night.
Re: weather, I would not plan for a pool day in February. You might luck out with great weather, but most of the times we've been at Disney that time of year it's been too chilly to enjoy the pools. Otherwise, it's my favorite time of year to go to WDW.
We went in late Jan/early Feb 2019 and the temps were generally mild. Most days we wore shorts and t-shirts with maybe a sweatshirt in the AM. A few days I needed to wear pants but DH and the kids were fine. My kids swam in the heated pool but DH and I just sat next to it, fully clothed. I'm not sure what crowds are like now, but we were surprised that it was very busy when we went. There were no holidays at the time - we took our kids out of school for a few days.
