Previously, my house only had shutters on the front windows. Now that we've painted and were replacing the shutters on the front, I decided I wanted to add windows to the sides of the house since you can see the sides from the street. Well, now that those are added, I'm wondering if I should add them to the back as well. I think that it might look more finished that way, and yes, I realize it would be for no one's benefit but my own LOL WWYD?
Also, all of the windows on the front and side are single windows, but I have two windows in the back that are double windows. I'm normally a "shutters should look like they function" person, so I would never put shutters next to like a bay or bow window, but what are the rules for double windows? Should I use shutters or no?
Thanks for playing!!

1) I see shutters on the back side of houses that sit on corner lots, and what you are proposing isn't really different. If you think it would look better, then go for it.
2) As for the double window, IDK. I think I'd just put shutters on it to match the single windows and call it a day. Not doing it under the logic that "clearly they don't function" would only look unfinished (and therefore contrary to your goal in #1).
Based on the spacing of your windows I would not. They are not in a consistent layout, and shutters are only going to draw more attention to that fact.
I like them on the back but the back is usually where window shapes become less standard and spacing more difficult. So if you can do them, add them, but if it won't work across the back, I vote no shutters.

Yeah, it seems like the two inner shutters of the lower windows would almost be touching and might look really weird. Maybe try photoshopping them in (to scale as much as you can) and see how it looks?
ETA: And the outer shutters on the upper and lower right hand side windows may hit the edge of the house and would that look off?

Don't do the back. It's just one more thing to maintain. We have them and I want to take them down as they're warped and faded, but if I do there will be fading and screw holes. When we replace them all it will be $$$ because there's so many in the front and back combined.
