If you put up a Christmas tree, what is on top? We currently have a star. It’s…fine. I think I want something more whimsical but I have no idea what that might be. We’re not at all religious so no angels.
I’ve seen some cool more “whimsical” ones at a giant Christmas store that I liked, but they weren’t lit so I didn’t bother getting one - I definitely want something that lights up… I might stalk this thread for ideas…
What are you guys into? Do you have a picture of your general Christmas style? The best whimsical options will be something that resonates with who you are or the general style of the tree.
We have this ridiculous dove thing. Last year was our first Christmas with our own tree and by the time I'd got round to trying to find a topper the stores were really picked over and it was too late to order online. The dove was the only thing left at Canadian Tire. But now I think it's kind of funny and it makes a good story so we'll keep it.

Our tree is a hodgepodge. I only like multicolored lights. Ornaments are from trips or milestones. We also each pick out a new one every year and get one more to represent the year. This year that is a vaccine bottle. So on the tree is everything from a beat up plastic santa in a sleigh that my grandpa gave my grandma in 1940 to the Believe sign from Ted Lasso.

I love our hodgepodge tree, also with multicoloured lights. It has everything from things we picked up on vacations, to beautiful ceramic ones from fancy Christmas stores, to our newest addition, a black Minecraft enderdragon.
We have a sunburst star with a mirror in the middle.
Our tree is definitely a hodge podge of travel and milestone ornaments but I do the “base” pretty traditional. Last year I did a bow/star combo, other years no bow. I couldn’t find a great pic, it looked nice IRL.

I love this. (as a crafty-ish person my go to if things are sold out would be homemade. Next time I'll also check the tire store. lol.)
Ha, I feel like I should clarify that Canadian Tire sells more than automotive parts and services. It's also quite a large home goods/camping/sporting goods store.
My main tree (no real theme; family stuff, homemade and travel souvenir ornaments with colored lights) has a cheesy gold glittery star that no longer lights up. DS picked it when he was in preschool and got a bug up his ass that the tree needed a star. Every year I plan to buy a new one but have never gotten around to doing so. I do a crystal and silver tree in my dining room which has white fake doves and/or silver ribbon. I have a small Barbie tree in my office that has pink lights and a little pink star.
We have a star but I really want one that’s candy themed because we have a food themed tree. I also want a candy tree skirt. You’d think these would be easy to find!
For our tabletop tree we have a mini Shiny Brite spindle looking thing.
We don’t have a fancy tree set up though! Just ornaments and blue lights.

DH bought a shark that’s taking a bite out of the top of the tree. It’s currently sitting on the table, DH is patiently waiting for me to give the ok. Lol
My mom knit me an angel tree topper. It doesn't light up but will always go on top of my Christmas tree. My paternal grandma made the angel tree topper that always went on top of my Christmas tree growing up. I'm continuing the tradition for my DS(5).
We have a lighted star. It’s fine. I honestly don’t care because I’ve let my kid takeover tree decorating.
Growing up we had a bear with balloons and presents. My mom did not want a Santa. I’m not describing it well. She still has it, even though she only does a tabletop tree.

I’ve seen both of these IRL and they are so bad looking. The candy things always look so cheap. The ornaments are easy to find and look great but the other stuff always looks like Walmart rejects.
I grew up in a "Christmas is a secular holiday" family, so we always had a Santa tree topper. Now, in our house, we use one of the ones from my childhood.
