It was a really slow month for me. I spent two weeks in the middle of November starting and stopping over half a dozen books. Nothing was keeping my attention.
A Line to Kill by Anthony Horowitz 3* (maybe the weakest in the series so far) Going There by Katie Couric 4* Rock, Paper, Scissors by Alice Feeney 4* (the best thriller I've read this year but I haven't leaned into that genre as much this year) Fault Lines by Emily Itami 4*
I'm at 74/75 right now but assume I'll hit 80 by the end of the year.
Not a great month, definitely more 3* books than I usually have.
Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero, Edgar - 4* This was simply a fun read.
The Husbands by Chandler Baker - 3* Interesting premise, poor execution
World Travel: An Irreverent Guide by Anthony Bourdain (not really) - 3* Struggled to get through this. I enjoyed the quotes, which I could read in his voice, but it was overall disappointing. I think putting the locations in alphabetical order was a horrible choice.
Kingdom of the Blind (Chief Inspector Armand Gamache, #14) by Louise Penny - 3* Definitely not my favorite from the series.
DNF: Once There Were Wolves It was way too depressing. I had a friend spoil the outcome for me about halfway through and decided not to keep going.

The Heart Principle (The Kiss Quotient #3) by Helen Hoang - 2.5* Isn't it Bromantic? (Bromance Book Club #4) by Lyssa Kay Adams - 3.5* The Office of Historical Corrections by Danielle Evans - 4* The Anthropocene Reviewed: Essays on a Human-Centered Planet by John Green - 4* Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo - 4*
The Nature of Fragile Things by Susan Meissner,5*- This was my favorite book of the month.
Bluebird by Sharon Cameron,4*
While Justice Sleeps by Stacey Abrams, 3* Zorrie by Laird Hunt,3* Three Sisters by Heather Morris, 3* The Guide by Peter Heller, 3* Defending Britta Stein by Ronald Balson, 3*
Duds: Local Woman Missing by Mary Kubica, 2*- I was intrigued at first, but the story got boring and went down hill fast from there.
The Dog Stars by Peter Heller, 2* - The writing style was horrible (incomplete sentences, incoherent sentences, no quotation marks, etc). It drove me mad.
The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood 4* First Comes Like by Alisha Rai 3* A Season for Second Chances by Jenny Bayliss 3* Bad Romeo by Leisa Rayven 3* Broken Julie by Leisa Rayven 3* Now That you Mention It by Kristan Higgins 3* How to Marry Keanu Reeves in 90 Days by KM Jackson 2* The Hookup by Kristen Ashley 2* Into the Deep by Samantha Young 2* Out of the Shallows by Samantha Young 2*
Very uneven month. Read a lot in the middle and the end but basically nothing for like 2 weeks mixed in there. I had a lot of early morning meetings far from home this month which wore me out and cut into my reading time.
I always pick a low goal so I know I can meet it. I said 150 and have read 232 although GoodReads is saying I’m at 229 and I can’t figure out what is missing.
You Be Mother by Meg Mason (always enjoy her)
Everyone In this Room Will Someday Be Dead by Emily R. Austin (good)
Cackle by Rachel Harrison (not bad)
Baggage: Tales from a Fully Packed Life by Alan Cumming (fun)
Made in China: A Memoir of Love and Labor by Anna Qu (okay)
The Boys: A Memoir of Hollywood and Family by Clint Howard and Ron Howard (good)
All These Bodies by Kendare Blake (okay)
The Rural Diaries: Love, Livestock, and Big Life Lessons Down on Mischief Farm by Hilarie Burton Morgan (interesting)
Smile: The Story of a Face by Sarah Ruhl (I really didn’t like this woman)
Lemon by Kwon Yeo-Sun (okay)
One of Us is Next by Karen M. McManus (not good)
Win Me Something by Kyle Lucia Wu (good)
The Sweetest Remedy by Jane Igharo (disappointing)
You Can't Be Serious by Kal Penn (ok but the last third was pretty bad)
Humans of New York: Stories by Brandon Stanton (eh)
The Year I Stopped Trying by Katie Heaney (cute)
Nothing but Blackened Teeth by Cassandra Khaw (okay)

I love your rating scale. I was having trouble this month with a star rating and should have gone with this lol.

I hate doing star ratings! Too stressful. Sometimes a book is really good for what it is and enjoyable but not the best book in the world, you know? Or the book is 90% good and then the end was awful. What kind of stars do you give then?
In November, I finished two. The Book of Delights - Essays by Ross Gay and Zorrie by Laird Hunt. They were both ok.
I’m at 32 for the year and will not hit at least 52 for the first time in many years because I’ve got a professional job again. The reading for fun has been one of the things I’ve had to cut way back on, unfortunately.
