BTW, I googled David Perdue b/c I couldn't find the article I just read about him, and the first thing on the page is an ad for Stacey Abrams official campaign website. Well played
So, it appears that the government is trying to continue their downward slide into a dictatorship and use right wing policies that have already been shown to be bad decisions elsewhere:
1. Removing oversight Boris Johnson is planning to let ministers throw out legal rulings they disagree with, according to a report that has increased fears that the government is determined to weaken judicial scrutiny after a series of defeats in court.
An ally of the prime minister told the Times that the judicial review and courts bill going through parliament “doesn’t go far enough” for the prime minister, who is considering an option, drawn up by the lord chancellor, Dominic Raab, and the attorney general, Suella Braverman, which would enable it to strike out findings from judicial reviews with which the government does not agree.
A judicial review is a court proceeding where a judge examines the lawfulness of an action or a decision of a public body. It looks at the way a decision has been reached, rather than the rights and wrongs of that decision, but some Conservatives have accused judges of overreach.
The fucking reason that they have made those decisions is because the Conservatives are ACTING UNLAWFULLY AND TRYING TO GET AWAY WITH IT!!!!!!
So, yeah. We now have a gov't who don't want any oversight so they can do whatever they like.
Users of class A drugs in the UK would face losing their passports or driving licences under proposals reportedly set to be unveiled this week. (note - losing a passport should be illegal under Human Rights laws)
Boris Johnson will this week launch a 10-year plan to tackle drug-related crime, which will include travel bans, harsher sentences for drug dealers and measures to break up county lines gangs.
We've never seen the war on drugs go wrong anywhere in the world, have we? Never seen how it actually tends to be used to crack down on POC versus white people (or those in power, as they have found traces of cocaine in the PARLIAMENTARY BATHROOMS - ALL OF THEM).
Related to mrsukyankee point number 2, I read this article yesterday:link
Basically there are traces of cocaine ALL OVER Westminster, including in the most highly secure areas.
I love the quote from the Scottish MP at the end"
“So Downing Street stands accused of breaking the law and hosting a Christmas party when they instructed us all not to do so, and the PM is cutting about on national television dressed as a police officer? Totally normal country,” Scottish lawmaker Stewart McDonald tweeted Monday.
ATLANTA, GA — When David Perdue launched his website announcing his run for Georgia governor on Sunday, his campaign may have done so after having to negotiate a slight hiccup.
The web address perduegovernor.com was already taken, and worse, redirected clicks to the official online site for U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff who unseated Perdue in a January runoff.
Two other web domains were also already occupied. While one, davidperduegov.com, went nowhere, the davidperduega.org address linked to a Jan. 5, 2021 tweet from nonpartisan Cook Political Report editor David Wasserman signaling Perdue’s loss to Ossoff.
“I’ve seen enough. John Ossoff (D) defeats Sen. David Perdue in GA’s runoff,” Wasserman tweeted. “Democrats win control of the Senate.”
It was not Ossoff’s camp behind the scheme, however, but former Democratic Party of Georgia Press Secretary Matt Blakely, who said he bought the domains in November to troll Perdue.
“David Perdue’s rollout was nothing short of disastrous,” Blakely said. “Instead of focusing on basics such as his campaign’s URL, he was busy filming tired direct-to-camera videos pushing election conspiracy theories in a craven act to earn Donald Trump’s support.”

I can’t get over the elicit Christmas parties at Downing Street after they had the whole nation cancel Christmas gatherings with family (which as far as I hear from UK family, the vast majority of the population complied out of solidarity for the health care workers). And the PM’s staffers were partying it up!?! Didn’t they know it would eventually get out?
The House Select Committee to Investigate the Jan. 6 Attack on the Capitol on Thursday released slides from a PowerPoint calling for former President Trump to declare a national security emergency in order to delay the certification of the results of the 2020 election. The presentation, headlined was referred to in an email provided to the committee by Mark Meadows, the former White House chief of staff who’s had a rough couple of weeks, to say the least.
The revelation is the latest piece of evidence that Trump and his inner circle, including his allies in Congress, were very actively and very aggressively trying to overturn the results of the election, which Trump lost handily.
The PowerPoint presentation, which spanned 38 pages and was titled “Election fraud, Foreign Interference & Options for 6 JAN,” was part of an email sent on Jan. 5, the day before the attack on the Capitol. The email pertained to a briefing that was to be provided “on the hill.” Hugo Lowell of The Guardian tweeted slides from the presentation on Thursday detailing a conspiracy theory-laden plan for Vice President Pence to install Republican electors in states “where fraud occurred,” and for Trump to declare a national emergency and for all electronic voting to be rendered invalid, citing foreign “control” of electronic voting systems.
Mark Meadows is being held in contempt of congress. I don't know what will come of this operationally, but I'm loving listening to the committee call him out. Take that, fucker!

They don't care. They have gotten away with so much in the Tory Party that they basically don't care any longer. They know they will still be voted in, will not have any investigations unless things go very wrong for them (so far, nothing has triggered much of anything in the past few years of illegal actions). We're basically on the edge of a fascist government and I don't say that lightly, as they are trying to vote in that court oversight will be crushed, any protest will be illegal (if they don't like it) and they can remove your passport if you have a second one (even for minor infractions). So, yeah, it is not surprising at all that this is going on.
It's totally normal that a bunch of Fox News personalities were pleading with Meadows to have Trump tell the insurrectionists to go home.
Yeeeeeah. I haven't been following the investigation committee news in real time; I wait for Heather Cox Richardson's recap, and last night's letter is jaw-dropping. It really feels like the screws are tightening and I'm anxiously hopeful that there will be real consequences for many, many people.

Unsurprisingly Fox isn’t reporting that…nothing to see here, folks.
They did, however just publish an opinion piece headlined “Let the people back into their capitol” Current conditions no longer justify a blanket prohibition on the public’s access to Capitol Hill.”
(That sound you just heard was my head exploding from rage)

I had to go find that piece because I do think they need to take down the fencing blocking off the roads and sidewalks in the area. But omg, they only talk about offices closing due to covid, but then include all these pictures of fencing as if covid is why the fences are up and totally dance around the ENTIRE fact of the insurrection. What a ridiculous piece of writing.
Authorities have arrested and charged three residents of a Florida retirement community for allegedly casting more than one ballot in the 2020 election, multiple outlets reported on Tuesday. Joan Halstead, Jay Ketcik, and John Rider all face a third-degree felony charge for their votes, which could land them in prison for up to five years.
It’s unknown which candidate they favored, but Halstead and Ketcik are both registered Republicans, The Orlando Sentinel reported (Rider does not have a register party affiliation). The retirement community where the trio lived, The Villages, is also a well-known MAGA hub, and pro-Trump material has reportedly appeared on Facebook pages appearing to belong to Ketcik, Halstead, and Rider.

The English government (I know it's British, but really, it's the English bit that I'm talking about as they see themselves separately so I'm going to talk about them this way) is in a shambles. And the world is, rightly so, seeing them for the idiots they are.
We just had the Brexit minister quit with no warning (jumping from a sinking ship) From twitter: Reaction from a (senior) EU diplomat: “Until now, every British Brexit negotiator has resigned or was sacked. Is it because Brexit is bad for Britain and leaves UK negotiators with the impossible task of squaring the circle?” Leaks of a huge Brexity Whatsapp group with some of our main gov't leaders being kicked out of it and squabbling amongst themselves.
And the worst is that come Jan, we'll REALLY feel the effects of Brexit, because we'll actually have the full custom controls in place (and we're not even close to being ready to handle this).
