The English government (I know it's British, but really, it's the English bit that I'm talking about as they see themselves separately so I'm going to talk about them this way) is in a shambles. And the world is, rightly so, seeing them for the idiots they are.
We just had the Brexit minister quit with no warning (jumping from a sinking ship) From twitter: Reaction from a (senior) EU diplomat: “Until now, every British Brexit negotiator has resigned or was sacked. Is it because Brexit is bad for Britain and leaves UK negotiators with the impossible task of squaring the circle?” Leaks of a huge Brexity Whatsapp group with some of our main gov't leaders being kicked out of it and squabbling amongst themselves.
And the worst is that come Jan, we'll REALLY feel the effects of Brexit, because we'll actually have the full custom controls in place (and we're not even close to being ready to handle this).
I can't find a supporting article, but I'm watching MSNBC and they mentioned that Manchin has yet again given a definitive no on Build Back Better, despite plenty of negotiating. I'm so angry at him.

I’m so fucking angry. This piece of shit had all the time in the world to object before now. What a waste of everyone’s time and energy.

NewOrleans, the equivalence to Fox news in paper form (there are still many people who read the paper), the Murdocks, Putin, a right wing take-over from an originally small group in the gov't, idiocy, Brexit, Covid, a bad system for voting...not too far off from what happened in the US but we're stuck with it for longer due to how our elections work.
I totally get that the White House is probably a very overwhelming environment for a dog, and it sounds like they’ve done their due diligence by consulting experts and ultimately deciding that Major will be better off living with another family … but I’m kind of put off that they’re bringing in a new puppy while shipping the other one off.

I’m with you. It’s like when the Clintons got Buddy and shipped off the cat.

Yes, that always made me sad, hearing that Socks went home with another family when the Clintons left the WH.
That’s one of the only compliments I’ll give Trump - he admitted he doesn’t like pets and wasn’t going to get one just to pander to voters.

It's not like they are dropping off Major on the side of the road--they made their best efforts and having Major somewhere else is what is best for him and WH employees. I'm glad Biden will have all of the health and stress-relief benefits of having a dog in the WH still. Hopefully the new pup will cope with the environment better.

I agree. The whole situation is sad but it seems like they did everything they could to make it a good experience for Major and now they’re doing what is best for them. I’m not sure it’s fair to ask a dog guy like Biden to do such a stressful job without the pet companionship he is used to.
The whole dog situation sucks. I'm also disappointed they couldn't make it work out. I also don't like the general message it sends. That being said, I would also not want a reactive dog in the White House.

This. It has got to be SO hard for a young adult dog to adapt to the kind of stress I imagine the White House environment brings. So major needed to be away either way and this way the Bidens still get to have a dog. The puppy will be brought up there and so he'll likely do much better.
I do get the optics aren't great. Send away the rescue dog to get a purebred puppy. The puppy was also a gift. Not that Biden didn't know it was happening, I'm sure, but it's a layer.

Didn't one of the Prime Ministers of the UK move out and leave the official cat behind at the Prime Minster's residence?
Larry has been at 10 Downing Street (not the residence of the PM, but the office) for 10 years and has lived there during the time of David Cameron, Theresa May and now Boris Johnson. He has an official title of Chief Mouser.

Didn’t Victoria have a Chief Mouser? Or was that just a children’s’ book?
