Ok the IG video kinda makes me think, did Peloton REALLY not know the content of that episode?! They were able to produce an ad within a few days of the premiere with no scheduling issues around a working actor?! Like Chris Noth was like oh hey I’m not busy sure let’s do it now. Ryan Reynolds too?
Are they just riding the no such thing as bad publicity wave?
FYI - it all came together in 48 hours. They had been talking to Ryan for a while after his funny spoof ad but this happened after the episode aired.
I was excited when I heard about this reboot because it felt refreshing to have a show about 50-something women. Like your comment above reminded me of how Charlotte made that crack at Miranda about dying her hair. Women are damned if they do, damned if they don’t. Either they’re criticized for looking too unnatural/trying too hard, or they’re criticized for “letting themselves go.” I was hoping they’d explore those sorts of storylines.
FWIW, I thought they all looked great. I kind of liked that Charlotte and Miranda had normal middle-aged bodies. They all had the normal amount of rich white women work done. It wasn’t like watching Nicole Kidman in Nine Perfect Strangers and being at once amazed and jealous and depressed because normal women do not age like that. I wish we’d stop holding older women to this weird standard where we expect them to at once look fresh and youthful but also make it look like it happened naturally.
I totally get what you're saying. The criticism, and I'm not talking necessarily here but everywhere, has me feeling something I can't quite articulate. I agree with you.
It's hard for me to articulate as well. I WANT to be all "you do you" about whatever women choose to do or not do as they age IRT cosmetic work/hair color and in theory I am but I can't get myself to NOT notice when it looks off to me. I could lie and say I like Miranda's hair gray but I just don't and I can't make myself like it. I do think that she should wear her hair however SHE likes it though and prior to this post I haven't commented on her hair at all. I also find Kristen Davis to be beautiful still, but yes I can see the lip filler. If she feels good with it, great. I would never, ever want to be in the public eye like that. I am definitely not thick skinned enough to let the general public pick me apart. I've been all in on Botox for years and had filler done once. I don't have any illuisions that I'm fooling anyone that I'm still 35, but I feel like it helps me look more rested and I prefer looking that way when I look in the mirror or see myself in photos. I do hope that I'll know where to draw the line with fillers and know when it's time to just age gracefully.

Me and my friends had this exact conversation Saturday night. I'm in the "do you" category. I totally understand what you're saying, though. I think there's just something in the way I'm hearing some of the talk, FOR ME, is making me feel uncomfortable. SJP got a ton of criticism when she went gray, so many people talked about how old and awful she looked, the other end of that is "too many fillers, she can't move her face." Can't win, man.

Absolutely cannot win. I think this is all nagging at me this week because I’ll turn 46 this weekend. Officially closer to 50 than 40 and I have to renew my license complete with new photo in a few days. I have to officially let go of my 35 year old pre-kid face on my license!

I just think that there was so much cringy stuff in that episode and the fillers were the absolute least of it.
Also, people ALWAYS blame women when their fillers aren’t perfect, as if they personally injected themselves. I had bad Botox once — my eyebrows were straight-up uneven — and … I never went back to that guy again. Luckily, I metabolize Botox pretty quickly. Fillers, unfortunately, can last 6-12 months (depending on product) so if your practitioner goes too heavy, you’re SOL for a while.
But what if she doesn't? What if she (or anyone else) went into a procedure with best hopes and it didn't work out as promised or planned? And now she (and so many other people) have to live with those consequences? I feel for them.
So much of what we consider acceptable in aging isn't actually aging naturally - it's being lucky enough that your interventions are subtle and go unnoticed.
While some people can be over ambitious with their goals, so often it's just that it didn't go as they hoped. If someone went too far or something went wrong, they probably know it and still have to go out in the world. I don't need to pile on to what is probably a pretty shitty internal monologue. Just like I wouldn't pile on if I knew you in real like and your next botox session didn't go as planned. Life goes on.

Yes, this is absolutely possible too. Then sometimes trying to correct the outcome also doesn’t work like one had hoped.

And FTR, my friend said basically exactly what you're saying and we had a good conversation about it.
I'm still annoyed from back when they were coming out with the SATC movies in their 40's and people were all "aren't they menopausal age now, EW." Remember that conversation? Like, basically you're old and over so you can go die now, lol.

I just read and article about Kristin Davis' reaction to the comments on her appearance she's rightfully pissed. Some of her commentary said that once you're over 40 in that industry there's pretty much no difference between a woman in her 40's and Betty White who is about to turn 100. She said she really tries not to read any of what's out there but just knowing that it's out there at all pisses her off so much

Does anyone remember the Last Fuckable Day sketch?
The Golden Girls is like 30 years old but that show did a way better job of depicting women in their 50s dealing with sexuality, dating, aging....etc.
Yes. And the moms in 80s & 90s movies? They look like…moms in their 40s. Not all fresh faced with immaculate blow outs & dressing like models.
I mean, SOME moms look like that but most of the moms around me look a little tired with clothes about 5yrs out of date. Meanwhile my very average mom looked like all the moms on media growing up

True (and I adore The Golden Girls). But I was always shocked to hear they were supposed to be in their 50's. I thought they were way older based on their hairstyles and caftans (and trust me, I love a Dorothy Zpornak caftan! I just probably wouldn't wear one till I was pushing 70...I think). I mean even the name - Golden Girls - to me that means retirement age (which sure as heck isn't your 50's. I wish!!!)
As for the reboot - a lot of it is cringeworthy. Especially Miranda's character. But honestly, they always were cringeworthy, and their relationships were too so it's not necessarily out of character for any of them. I remember watching the original maybe 5 years ago and thinking how awful they all were to one another. It sort of was a different time when it was originally filmed and they got a pass on their behavior - maybe because there was nothing else like it. The materialism alone in the reboot feels so gross now, I can barely watch it.
Who else thought there was weird foreshadowing with Big’s secretary? The scene with her sitting in the front row and how weird her interaction with Stanford was about it…they had to have it in there for a reason. It’s going to come back that Big had a kid with her 30 years ago or something. It was very weird to have all those scenes with her so it has to come back.

Interesting take! Someone told me it's rumored that things are going to come out about Big that aren't good.

I hear what she's saying, but there are successful women in the industry who have said they won't do plastic surgery, still continue to be in interesting movies, and have wrinkles and normal looking aging faces. Meryl Streep and Kate Winslett come to mind. Lots of male and female actors have a hard time getting jobs as they age. I know women in general are judged more harshly for their looks, but there are a lot of guys out there too who were in one popular show, but were really just mediocre actors and never really ended up doing much else. I dunno, I'm all for taking away the focus on women's looks in general, but I think trying to blame the industry for doing too many fillers and botox isn't really helping the cause.
I’m sure the pressure celebs feel to look a certain way is incredible, and I don’t envy that at all. I don’t really have these types of conversations irl b/c we are all just aging lol. I mean, I have lip fillers and plan to go bigger next time. It’s not hair or aging, but I”m not going to pretend a famous person doesn’t look inherently different than they used to b/c of some type of work.
And yes, women deal with this SO much more than men. We are definitely scrutinized more closely, irl and in celeb world. That sucks.
How do you like your lip fillers? I would love to do something to my upper lip.

A lot! My upper lip was very thin, pretty uneven when I looked closely. The doctor is a friend of mine who has a med spa, I’ve seen lots of her work and she said she would only do one vile, it was Juvaderm. She said we can do more next time. Bad part is she’s in PR! More reason to go back, ha. At first they felt huge, but were most definitely not, they were a little swollen/painful for a few day. I also had to get used to the filling of them being bigger? Now it just feels normal, it’s supposed to last 6-12 months. It was pretty subtle, like my family knew but never said anything. I think they kind of forgot and didn’t really notice. My close friends who knew did notice, but they also saw me right after.
Did they use Juvederm Volbella? I watched a training session for that product and was really impressed at how nice it looked. The patients I saw didn’t have the obvious overboard look at all.
I’m really interested in a non-cosmetic rhinoplasty because my nose has dropped and become more bulbous at the tip with aging and it really bugs me in photos. It’s done with fillers and sometimes Botox to relax the area that’s pulling down.

My friend's husband is hoping for a storyline that Big was friends with Jeffrey Epstein.
