Was setting up a 529 on your to-do list forever like I was for me? Here’s your end of year reminder to get on it!

This link is for California. I’m not sure if other states have the same deal, but if you sign up by Dec. 12th you get a $50 Target gift card after depositing a minimum of $50 when you set it up, and a minimum of $25 automatic transfers for 6 months. It’s all very easy online and all you need is your bank account info and parent / kids social security numbers. I’m not sure if the gift card deal works if you already have a parent account and need to set up another kid. The money can be transferred to other kids if the first doesn’t use it and the types of schools you can use it for is pretty broad.

Originally I delayed because I wanted to use the state that was the best from a MM perspective and never had time to deal with it. With bipartisan politics the way they are and how some states are being run, I decided I’d rather invest my money and use the plan in the liberal state I live in and love!
