This is very much a cart in front of the horse situation, but how do most people handle renovations with pets?
Daycare? They adapt? Something else?
(Our last project was.. awful. It dragged out months and we never knew if someone was coming to the house or not - I can't imagine how much more furious I'd have been if I'd also had to pay have the dog somewhere else on the off chance they actually showed up.)

We're going to be sending our dog to daycare as often as we can handle. Chances are he'd be OK after the first few minutes of craziness, but I'd rather he be completely out of the way as much as possible. Besides, he'll be so tired from playing all day that he hopefully won't get too nosy when he gets home.
It helps that his daycare is on the way to/from work.
The longest reno we did was our full bath, which took about 6 weeks. We just crated our dogs (we had 2 at the time) when we weren't home and/or when work was ongoing.
The two long renovations (kitchen and basement) we did were both blocked off from the rest of the house so it wasn’t an issue keeping the dog away from the contractors. Smaller projects (like a week or so) we send her to daycare. I stay home so can wrangle her but she’s highly anxious and has the memory of a goldfish, so the constant in and out of people is exhausting for her lol

Our renovation took months so our dogs had to adapt. Most of the work was upstairs so we used a baby gate to keep them down. Part of the day would be the crew coming in and petting the dogs.

We did our kitchen reno with a new puppy. I kept him with me in either the bedroom (and dragged my laptop up there) or the living room (my office was in there). The biggest pain was the barking at noises and not being about to go to the back garden (no side entrance) so had to walk him every time he needed to pee (which was often). We did get a dog walker to take him out in the middle of the day and that was fabulous. The guy(s) doing the work loved the dog and brought him treats every day, so that was nice.
Our dog went to daycare when we had kitchen and bathroom remodels going. She LOVES people and would never have left the crews alone. We just made sure to account for that cost in the budget, and thankfully we had a contractor that does dedicated crews for projects and doesn't sub much work out so we weren't wondering if anyone was showing up day to day and the work went relatively fast.
Both projects we're considering would essentially be in "his" rooms (kitchen and family room) that have the access to outdoors...
My guess is we'll just have to build him going to the dog walkers into the budget. Thankfully we have one we like who also drops off and picks up.
DH and I are in disagreement about timing of doing the larger project though, so nothing may come to fruition anyways, and we could just use the smaller project to get our feet (the dog's feet?) wet.

We are starting a kitchen renovation next month, and our entire downstairs is open. The plan right now is for H to move his workspace (he WFH 3-5 days/week) upstairs to our bonus room, and for our dog to stay closed away with him. On the days H goes to the office, we are going to do a combination of doggy day care (probably not more than once a week) or leaving the dog crated upstairs in the bonus room. I am expecting her to bark a lot when she's crated and people are in the house, so hopefully we can minimize that. She's very friendly, and our contractor said it is fine to leave her out, but I don't want them to have to worry abut her.
Our dog fell in love with our contractor, so it worked out well, lol. He was about 1 of 7 people she tolerated and allowed to pet her. We had to put her down yesterday (ugh so sad), and I know our contractor will be super sad about it when he comes back. Our cats were also totally fine and not bothered.

We had a small project this week (kitchen cabinet painting) and we're both off work this week. We all just hung out upstairs and put a baby gate in front of the stairs, but the dog has chosen this week to be the laziest dog on earth and slept the whole time. The noises haven't bothered her at all. If we weren't home and it was a longer project, I still think she would be fine upstairs with the baby gate. I wouldn't feel comfortable with her in the area of the workers who are going in and out of the front door all the time (she's a good girl but has chased a fox over the fence, run out to see her BFF neighbor Mr. Rick, etc).
We've used doggie daycare when truly needed but otherwise we stick them with DH in his home office. So long as they are with one of us, they seem fine. I take them with me if I need to go somewhere in the car (pick-up/drop-off DD).
I'm really glad you asked this! our kitchen renovation it supposed to start in a few weeks and I've been kind of ignoring the reality that it's going to freak out the dog and I don't know what to do about it.
I guess I'll add doggie daycare to our renovation budget. We have a place we go sometimes that I like, but don't love, but I should look around for a better place.
