I have borderline high blood pressure, and recent bloodwork also showed borderline elevated blood sugar and LDL cholesterol. My doctor recommended trying to control it with diet -- specifically the Keto diet, and tells me to eat lots of protein like chicken and fish, eat lots of nuts, veggies and fruits.
Look up Keto diet at home. The website says "Avoid nuts and fruits!"

Weird - I've always had nuts when I've done a keto diet. Some are better than others, based on their carb content, and they can be easy to overeat, but they're generally full of good protein and fat.
Fruit, though - yeah, they're trickier. Although some, like berries and melons, are okay within limits.
I was shamed by show me your wfh space thread on ML. I finally purchased a real desk, and ordered a smaller rug so I'm not perched weird in the room to avoid it.

I saw your response, and thought in my head "You want to see my couch and end table?" because that's usually where I work. And the end table is just for holding my coffee mug.
Today is a holiday so I am off work. It's also snowing, so we would have been off anyway. I'm really annoyed the weather couldn't have held out one more day!
I'm dreading going back to work. Even though I've done next to nothing since Thursday, I still feel like I need more time off.
Today is officially my first day in a new position at work. I’m not sure how long of a transition is typical, but it’s looking like I’m still going to have responsibilities in the old position until Feb! My plan was to have less stress and less responsibilities. Failing.

I haven’t gone in there yet. I know I’ll be jealous. We didn’t buy this house with the expectation to ever have 2 adults WFH full time. There is no space for it. Housing here has gone insane (as everywhere I guess) so getting more space isn’t happening. I will be working from a corner of our dining room forever and it sucks.

On a brighter note, I just ordered my bridesmaid dress for my sister's wedding in April. I took measurements months ago, and when I took them again today, my waist was 3 inches smaller.

I think I need to set up a real/permanent WFH situation too.
I’ve been working on a shitty/wobbly folding table in our guest room since March 2020 (before being on my LOA), but when I return from leave I think I’m going to replace the regular bed that’s in there with a Murphy bed and get a real desk in that room instead. I don’t see hybrid work ever ending for me/in my profession. Might as well make that room more functional space for the people in the house that actually live there!
We have a designated home office type room already (a small room right off our main living area separated by French doors), but my H has always worked from home full time even before the pandemic, so he’s more or less commandeered that space. We tried to share, and that lasted a week.
We did this with H's office. Well, sort of. We replaced the actual bed with a pull-out. Considering we've had overnight guests like 3 times in 11 years it hasn't been a problem.
I'm reading "The Cult of We," which is an account of WeWork and OMG. I cannot get over how this company was valued in the billions based on a lot of obvious bullshit. I am not a business person but I am just flummoxed at how obvious it should have been that the company was massively over-valued.
I really wish that it was more like Bad Blood and had more of a focus on the lower-level employees. The authors seem to think that just because the lower level employees didn't object or raise issues in town hall settings that they believed in the hype and loved the toxic environment.
We have put off our Chicago move until next year, and 2 office spaces is a absolutely on the must have list. Right now my husband is in a corner of the living room and I’m in a corner of the front room. It’s not great at all seeing work everywhere. I’ve decided to turn our smallest bedroom into an office so I can get some peace and quiet while working.

There's only one office I'm jealous of. The rest made me feel like we're all on this same journey trying to carve out a space in our house to work.
I used to work in a room downstairs which is perfect for an office, but I didn't get enough sunlight and literally spent a good part of the day crying. Where I am now is a public part of the house (sun room), but the sunlight brings me such joy.

There’s a WeWork documentary on Hulu that has some regular employees interviewed.
My work just went 💯 percent remote today. Thank god no one is dying, just lots of cases of + employees and households with cold-like symptoms and + Covid tests. So, just work from home (we can). I hate WFH. But maybe I’ll make an effort with making my space nice. Why not? This shit is permanent.
A followup to randoms from 4 or 5 months ago. In mid-august, we found out our sunroom walls were literally rotting between the drywall and the siding. My H has been working on it for months. We pulled all the windows, reframed the walls (including the main post supporting the vaulted ceiling). Also, demoed out some crazy 80s stucco on the fireplace and put in a granite surround and gas insert. It’s 90% done and we finally moved furniture back in yesterday!
maybe it’s H&G related, but I had my termite vents here 😂
I just realized that for the first time in 14 years I don't have to go through all the shit of ordering planners for people in the office. OMG. I'm free!
I got my offer letter and new hire packet for my new job I’m starting on the 18th. It couldn’t have come at a better time as I found myself crying because of a shitty communication that went to one of my clients without first being reviewed by me. The next 8 days can’t pass fast enough.
I got my first paycheck from my new job. Omg. Immediately redid our budget and now I’m dreaming of booking a fun vacation for this summer. I really need something to look forward to. This year I think we will stay closer to home and do a southern RI beach trip so we can enjoy a little less time driving.
After months of being screwed over, today I received an offer for a paygrade bump in my current position from my current boss. Yay! The raise is a bit lackluster, but I can counter for higher pay.
However, the complicating factor - I am interviewing tomorrow for an internal position that is a 2 grade pay bump, and also falls in my wheelhouse. (my current position is very junior for my experience level, but was the only position I was able to get my foot in the door with...)
My current boss knows I am looking for a new position, primarily because this paygrade bump that he _finally_ secured for me should have happened months ago. I've let him know I will have to delay my response to him until after the interview process for this other position.
S/O offices and homes and such. In the next year I’m going to renovate the master bath.
What material of countertops do people use in master baths? Is it quartz and quartzite like people do in kitchens these days?
They're a bit out of style now I suppose since we picked this all out 9 years ago, but our bathrooms are all natural stone/stone look tile, so the vanity tops in two of the bathrooms are coordinating natural stone. Marble in one, polished travertine looking stuff (I forget what it was actually called? It's got fossils. since it's the kids bathroom we thought they'd think it was cool) in the other. It's surprisingly affordable since they can make a vanity top out of scraps from a kitchen counter slab so we got ours by perusing the "remnants" section at a local stone fabricator.
Our master is actually glass with an integrated bowl with a furniture style cabinet (i.e. it's got legs rather than looking like kitchen cabinets). It looks like hell when it's all covered in my hair, and makeup bits and bobs, and toothpaste speckles, but is very sharp when clean. (all hail the professional cleaners who make it look nice once a month!)
We did this with H's office. Well, sort of. We replaced the actual bed with a pull-out. Considering we've had overnight guests like 3 times in 11 years it hasn't been a problem.
That’s really the issue with changing up our guest room - my parents visit allllllll the time. They’re from out of state, and they fly here multiple times a year, and stay for a decent amount of time when they come. So having a real bed is nice for them. But on the other hand…WFH ain’t going away.
At the very least, even if I don’t get rid of the bed, I need to get a real desk/table and not just a folding table!
We considered a Murphy bed and I think that's what we would've done if we had frequent houseguests. I even looked up some DIY and it seemed reasonably do-able.
For our needs, what's basically a grown-up futon from Ikea works pretty well.

It’s my first day back at work after the holiday and there is something very satisfying about going through my calendar for the year and requesting anticipated time off. Just booked a summer vacation to have something to look forward to.
Our national positivity rate is over 40%. Our hospital numbers have doubled in the last week. Cases are rocketing. And less than 1/3 of the eligible population is boosted.
PDQ but in November, the Prime Minsiter ended the work from home order for the government sector with effect from January 1. So we are all back in offices 100%. No conisderation for WFH at all. I am now wearing a N95 in the office all day and hoping for the best. All my staff are fully vaccinated fortunately but only 2 of us are eligible for boosters at the moment.
