Mail carrier gift

I never gave our mail carrier a holiday gift. Like $20 value; just something small. I meant to give him one, because he’s really nice and often brings our mail right up to our porch when we have packages and things. But I know they can’t accept cash or gift cards. I have no clue what I could give him for a belated gift. Most of what I can think of are food gifts, but I don’t know if he’s a vegetarian, allergic to nuts, or what. I know nothing about him. Any ideas?

I always do $20. Years ago I asked our (previous) mailman what he'd like. He said cash. I've stuck with it with all other carriers we've had.

Break the rules! I view this like teachers. No mugs, plants, food, drink....just give the $$. If you were giving $100 ok, that is too far, but I really feel this is an accepted don't ask/don't tell and look the other way thing.

Exactly! They don't want little bags of nuts, candy or a World's Greatest Mail Carrier mug. lol I've known several mail men. Money, gift card or just say thank you.

Yup, ours accepts the GC we give him every year! No one would want something else from their client unless you know them really well

I do $20 cash in a card. Our mailman is great! He works really hard and is very kind to the kids.

Federal employees cannot accept single gifts over $20 and a yearly total of $50, including the USPS.

They are also supposed to report each gift received and receive legal clearance before acceptance.

We do gift cards. Target $5-$20 depending on my mood.

My dad used to do cigars because my dad smokes them and he noticed the mailman used to smoke one while delivering.

I must have misunderstood the rule. I thought the gift just had to be $20 or less so we always do a $20 GC. I do it to CVS because that is on my mailman’s route and I see him in there sometimes buying cold drinks.

Should add - our mailman’s bday is in the summer. So for the summer bday I gave him a case of his favorite Gatorade. I usually leave a chilled Gatorade out for him on extra hot days so I already knew his fave flavor since I asked him.

Does he have a drink you see him carrying?
