Just a quick reminder to read Doctor Zhivago for our book club discussion on Wednesday, 2/2. We pushed the book discussion for January to the first week of February in order to give people more time to read it.
ufcasey , that article is really interesting! I’m a couple of chapters in to the oldest translation, which is what my library had available, but I might have to track down the newer translation. It definitely sounds like it would be a more enjoyable read.
I realized that I'm reading the oldest translation. I wish I had gotten a newer translation, but I'm 200+ pages in and have somewhat gotten used the writing style.
My library has the Richard Pevear translation. I’m anxious to get to this but I have to get through one more book before I do. I still think I can squeeze it in in time for book club discussion.
Translations are so important! They can really make or break a reading experience.
Also, I remembered the book that reminded me I wanted to read Doctor Zhivago - The Secrets We Kept by Lara Prescott. The novel plays a prominent role in the book (and they spoil the ending).

I read The Secrets We Kept and it made me not want to read Doctor Zhivago. (Ducks) I hope you all enjoy it though!
I just can’t get into it. I think it might be one of those timing things. It took me until my third attempt to get into and complete Anna Karenina. I ended up loving it but it had to be the right time.
