We finished a first floor renovation last year and now I need to figure out a new table/chairs situation. The table and chairs we have in there now are actually our formal dining room set and they need to go back to the dining room.
I want a round table to balance all the rectangles in the kitchen. The space between the edge of the peninsula and the step down to the family room is a little over 9 feet. I’m thinking a 60 inch table might be too big, but I need to put it on craft paper and put it in the room to verify. There’s a few 54 inch options that might work better.
What color chairs and what design do you think are best? We have young kids, so while I would love to do an upholstered chair, it’s probably not a good idea. The kitchen has no black, but the family room has some black accents. Could I do black chairs with a wood table? I lean toward no because the kitchen is gray, white, and gold. If anyone has ideas, I’d love to hear them! Our style leans transitional.
I would do wood table with black chairs. I like the round table. Maybe a chair with a rounded back too?
I didn’t post a picture, but there is another open doorway to our mudroom just off the eat-in kitchen that we painted a dark green-blue color. So I’d like to keep the kitchen a little more neutral.

Maybe wood table with gray chairs? Or vice versa? I feel like black and wood are fairly neutral with what you’ve posted pics of.

Lovely space! Do you know how wide your kitchen is? Mine looks like a similar dimension and I’m thinking about design/floor plans.
I like the pedestals you posted. I have a wayfair pedestal table under 60” and the kids have done a number on it with sharpies and crafts. If your kids are really young I might just Craigslist chairs. Again, mine have wrecked ours

Thanks! It’s about 14ft. wide in the actual kitchen area (not where the bump out with the patio door is).
My kids are almost 9 and 6, so while they still spill on occasion, we should be past the coloring on furniture phase.
