I’m painting this room F&B Parma Gray. I’m going to do the picture frame moulding in Parma Gray too. I wanted to do the trim Parma Gray but my husband wanted to leave it as is so I agreed. Painter is here and said the trim needs painted too (some of it is in rough shape). Do I go with White Dove (main floor trim color) or Parma Gray? Here’s the space and some inspo pics.
I just had to make this decision w/the panel molding in my bedroom. I thought of doing all one tone, but sort of chickened out and did the trim and panel molding in white dove. I'm happy w/the choice.
Since your ceilings are higher, I think you have more license to do the wall and wall molding one color and the base/ceiling trim in a white toned semi gloss. I'd go w/the latter. I also tend to think the all-one-tone look is better in a more saturated color like your blue inspo pics - otherwise, I think it potentially looks like a washed out, unpainted room in light neutral colors.
I would stick with White Dove for the trim. I like the all one colour look best when it is complete, as in ceilings and trim. I also don’t think it will look right in such a light toned colour.
He ended up not needing to paint the trim! I’m still undecided about doing trim the wall color but probably only 30% likely to do it. I may do the ceiling at 50-25% strength. He’s going to come back and paint White Dove (our main floor trim is 50/50 White Dove and SW Creamy so we are working on transitioning it all to White Dove. My ivory furniture looks so much better against the blue.
If you are still considering it, follow johnice.katz on Insta. She is a designer and loves the trim/walls same color. Always has lots of ideas and inspo pics.
Going with the main floor color adds continuity from room to room. Going with the room color makes the details recede. I think you have pretty details so I would paint the trim and the picture molding in white dove to highlight the pretty details.
