My parents can choose door handles for their condo in either brushed nickel or matte black. They HAD brushed nickel b/c they had to choose very early and assumed they would go with chrome & brushed nickel for a lot of finishes. However, they ended up with NOTHING brushed nickel. They have brass/gold for kitchen faucet, cabinet pulls, lights, and the main guest bath. They have chrome in the other baths & laundry. In the lower level, they have polished nickel pulls on the bar b/c it just looks really rich with the counter/backsplash and doesn't have to coordinate with anything else downstairs.
They just found out they could still switch to the black handles. Would you switch or stay with brushed nickel?
I see online that black can fade??? Maybe brushed nickel is still more "neutral" even though it doesn't actually match anything?
I may be biased, but we recently switched out all of our hardware on the main floor to matte black and gold/brass in a few places and I love it. So, that would be my vote.
