Does anyone have black kitchen cabinets and can share photos? Particually what color paint you have on the walls? My husband really wants to paint our cabinents black but we may need to paint a wall color before we can paint the cabients.

Can you PIP the space? I don't have black, but I'd expect you could take some of the principles of navy cabinets and translate them to black. Like black w/brass hardware and a cream/brass backsplash could look very sharp. Maybe some wood elements too.

mrsukyankee, thanks! That was our (my) original plan, then I wanted to do a white or semi-off white but my husband wants to do a light grey. I love grey but most of the rest of our house is grey (SW Repose Grey) and I don't want grey all over. Looking for inspo pics but they all seem to be more starker/modern with marble and wood.

I once heard that the wall color is the last thing you should pick; you want to make sure all of the other elements work with each other, and then the wall color pulls it all together. In your case, I'd make the sure the cabinets work with your countertop and then finish with the wall color.

I’d definitely go light, with the dark cabinets and counter. If the granite has any lighter tones, you can pull from that, but then I’d go a shade lighter and cooler, and make sure you have cooler temperature light bulbs to keep the space from seeming yellow. I like the photo PP posted or the yellow backsplash for a modern look, but I think that works because the palettes is black/white with a bright accent color. Are you painting the cabinets or buying new? If you are painting them, I recommend you use a very dark charcoal and not a true black. It will still appear black but not be so harsh.

that does seem to make sense, but we have to rip apart one of our walls for a plumbing issue so will need to repaint it. We have a small sample of the original color (new house) but we don't love it so we were thinking of painting the whole kitchen a better color rather color matching what we have now. We can't afford to do the cabinents just yet though but it's my H's long term project plan.
ellipses84, thanks for that insight! the bulb lighting is a good thought to consider. It's funny you say dark grey/charcoal because we saw an example in sherwin williams with charcoal cabinents and very light grey (cyberspace and skyline steel for paint lovers) and might end up in that direction.
