My husband likes blackout curtains , whereas I want as much sunlight as possible and much prefer sheers. We compromised with blackout curtains and shades only in the bedroom.
At the same time, we had our contractor install the big curtain rod above our french doors in the bedroom because we were not sure we could do it well enough. He just used drywall anchors, which started to pull out over time. We reinstalled the rod ourselves, moving the side brackets closer in so they were screwed into the framing of the door. To cover the old holes, though, we moved some of the curtain to fall outside the outer brackets, and they no longer closed fully in the middle.
I got these curtains and it's the perfect compromise! We hung them inside the blackout curtains and now they close the gap, and also depending on how we open them it's sheer when we want them to be, and yet blackout when we want that, plus I think it looks better -- I always wanted a pretty color and pattern there but was limited to what was available in blackout options. Hooray!
They look lovely! They make so many great options for blackout curtains now. I always like to layer sheers behind regular curtains for privacy with natural light. I have some double curtain rods for this, and I’ve also used a tension rod in the window frame where the height doesn’t matter.
