Landscaping costs

We just moved into a new house this winter. My H and I have never lived in a SFH house and as such we are pretty clueless how to maintain a yard. The previous owner gave us the name of her landscaper who the neighbors also use. He charges $100 a month for 2x a month. Mowings, branch trimming and other lawn maintenance is included. Is this a fair price? It seems low to me but we are clueless. We have 1/3 of an acre of land and live in a HCOL area (nyc suburbs of nj).

That sounds reasonable to me. We pay $70 for the same services, but for smaller lot, more mcol.

That seems cheap to me and I'd jump on it! We pay $75 a WEEK for similar services (mowing, edging, light weeding and cleanup after the 1 major seasonal cleanup that is not included) for our almost 1/2 acre. And we just got quoted almost $4000 for the 1 time spring cleanup which will be leaf clean up, all over trimming of bushes, prepping of flower beds, and mulching (and had another quote for $5000 from another company).

thanks both! I thought it seemed cheap/reasonable but we have no basis for home maintenance. It's not even that we haven't owned a SFH, neither one of us have ever lived in one even as children so we can't even ask our parents for advice.

Seems cheap to me! We pay $130 a month for similar lawn care.

It seems like a great price. Depending where you live, 2x month mowing may not be enough. In peak mowing season, DH sometimes has to mow 2x a week.

The landscaper actually said the old owner was doing weekly and it was unnecessary because we have short grass. Seems like an honest thing to say because he made more money doing the lawn for her weekly.

That's great news. If we could get that price, I think we'd jump on it. Congrats on the new house:)
