Kinda slow month for me:
I finished:
Local Woman Missing - 3.5*'s. I had higher expectations going in. The Plot 3 - 3.5* meh. I pretty much figured out the plot about 50% through. Too many big words just to show "I have a real life MFA"
I'm halfway through "The Turnout" it's just taking me forever. I'm not a fan of the author and should just DNF.
Started "Smile and Look Pretty" this week. So far good, but hard to read if you're overworked and underpaid and underappreciated.
Hoping to catch up and boost my overall goal for the year
I finished 4 books and 3 shorts. A slightly slower month than January and February but I didn't get to vacation this month.
Vicious (Villians, #1) by V.E. Schwab - 4* A Certain Hunger by Chelsea Summers - 4.5* The Kaiju Preservation Society by John Scalzi - 4.5* The Ghost Bride by Yangsze Choo - 4*
Shorts from the Kindle Trespass collection: The Tiger Came to the Mountains by Silvia Moreno-Garcia - 5* Wildlife by Jeff VanderMeer - 3* The Backbone of the World by Stephen Jones - 4*
I really liked everything I read this month with the exception of one of the shorts. A Certain Hunger isn't for everyone but it was certainly memorable!
I had to up my yearly goal to account for the Kindle shorts. Does anyone know how to make a book show as read on a date but not count towards the Goodreads annual challenge?
4* What Could be Saved by Schwarz, Liese O'Halloran - I found it slow, but the ending really hit with an emotional punch. I had no idea that this book as going to be so gritty. If you have any triggers you might want to steer clear of this book. I think this will be one of those books that sticks with me for a long time.
3* The Humans by Matt Haig - It didn't live up to my expectations. I didn't find it funny at all. Escape by KR Alexander - I read this with my son and this is an average of our scores.
2* The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St. James - I liked the first part of the book, but hated the second part.
Anxious People by Frederick Backman 3.5* The Rehearsals by Annette Christie 3* What Might Have Been by Holly Miller 3* By Any Other Name by Lauren Kate 3* Weather Girl by Rachel Lynn Solomon 3* Shacking Up by Helena Hunting 3* Getting Down by Helena Hunting 3* Hooking Up by Helena Hunting 3* Handle With Care by Helena Hunting 3* The Family You Make by Jill Shlavis 3* Gravity by LD Cedergreen 3* The Butterfly Effect by Kelly Elliott 3* Playing With Words by Kelly Elliott 3* Hearts in Motion by Kelly Elliott 3*
Surrender to Me by Kelly Elliott 2* She's the One by Kelly Elliott 2*

Cinderella is Dead 5* Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels 5* The Sentence 4* The Charmed Wife 4* Bright Ruined Things 4* Better Allies 3* Girls Made of Snow and Ice 3* The Wedding Date 2* The Wife Upstairs 2*
Groundskeeping by Lee Cole 5* Cold the Night, Fast the Wolves by Meg Long 4.5* The Violin Conspiracy by Brendan Slocumb 4.5* Olga Dies Dreaming by Xochitl Gonzalez 4.5*
The Kitchen God’s Wife by Amy Tan (reread, but the first read was so long ago I didn’t remember it) 4* Last Night in Montreal by Emily St. John Mandel 4* (this was weird but I like her writing style)
Wild Irish Rose by Rhys Bowen and Clare Broyles 4*
The Cartographers by Peng Shepherd 3* (cool premise, disappointing book) The Swimmers by Julie Otsuka 3* Wayward by Dana Spiotta 3* The Magicians by Lev Grossman (another reread I didn’t remember well) 3* Wish You Were Here by Jodi Picoult 3*
I had to up my yearly goal to account for the Kindle shorts. Does anyone know how to make a book show as read on a date but not count towards the Goodreads annual challenge?
I don’t think that’s possible — it automatically puts anything with this year as a read date in the challenge.
Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys 4* Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney 3* Meet Me in Paradise by Libby Hubscher 2* (I wasn't expecting a sad book) Redemption Road by John Hart 4* The Royals Next Door by Karina Halle 2.5* (I was bored reading this and the "romance" was not anything to get excited about) The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward 2.5* (I can't pinpoint what I didn't like about this, but it was just meh for me)
Violeta 3* The Lincoln Highway 4-4.5* The Maid 3* The President and the Frog 5* The Love Story of Missy Carmichael 2.5-3* What Happened to You? 4* The Swimmers 3*
