Covid finally got us. DS4 got it at school I think. The district dropped masks about a month ago. We had colds a few weeks ago and tested negative. He had a cough and sore throat on Sunday and I thought another cold but tested before school and it was positive. So far the other two triplets have gotten it from him (or school?). I told a mom who has kids in DS4's class and their family is positive, too. Based on timing and lack of activities I would guess the same source at school.
Dammit, seeyalater52. I've been wondering if you were doing ok and I'm so bummed for you. You haven't failed him at all, you've been a wonderful mother and he's lucky to have you. You and the other parents of the under 5's deserve a break.
Dd kept her mask on after they lifted the requirement to get to our Colorado trip (amazing, so easy to be outdoors). She kept it on a week after break to be sure we didn’t bring anything back.
Let her take it off last week
She has influenza A. Our elementary has over 10% of kids out sick (only 2 are Covid, 60 are other illness). They’ll be masked again for 2 weeks. DD’s flu shot is a little stale since we did them early in hopes we’d be getting Covid shots in October. Freakin flu. We’ve never had it. DS tested negative but is tired and coughing some so he’s home now too and I’m achy today. I’m salty.
I wouldn't be sorry if our COVID shots became twice annual and were combined with twice annual flu shots going forward...
Sorry I did not mean to turn this in to an announcement! There was a post on ML about what’s going well in your life so I posted a few things, including pregnancy. But clearly not everyone is on ML And I posted in the Trouble TTC as well.
Anyway, thanks all!! Taking it day by day
And yes erbear will take any advice about going to FL hehe.
Ah. Well, no, I don’t think I’d go to Florida while pregnant knowing how the risk for Covid seems to increase with pregnancy. I’d consider some places but I wouldn’t go to a place where I knew little to no precautions were being taken. Sorry

DS2 missed one day of school to go to the doctor for a really horrible cough. He had a negative covid test at home, and they said it was just allergies. Then today he was coughing so hard he was making himself puke, but test was still negative. School said he would need an official test to return. Well, I went to three covid testing centers and all three have closed down. I guess he is not going to school again.
Anyone know how long it is taking Walgreen’s tests to come back these days? I wrote them off ages ago when it took me eight days to get results, but I assume it is better now?.
seeyalater52, so many hugs. It's so not fair that the under fives are still waiting for vaccines. Don't feel like you can't complain about the complete bullshittiness of it all.
seeyalater52, you are a mom who moved heaven and earth to pursue the best option for your kiddo. You can't out-mom a randomized trial, and you got really shit luck. I am so sorry about that, after all the lengths you went to. It's not even a little on you though, just in case hearing that helps.
I mentioned this article in the non-@ thread. It’s somewhat a general article about people who haven’t had covid yet, and maybe there is something there. But it’s way too heavily @ framed for the general thread. So I’m going to drop it here.
My unvaccinated 4 year olds have had covid running through their daycare classes. We don’t shut down anymore, just keep going and test 5 days after exposure. So of course each week a new case or two pops up. But at least daycare hasn’t been closed forever.

I was just reading that as well. Neither I nor DD2 have had covid despite numerous exposures, including in our house. My nurse BIL who's been treating covid patients for 2 years has never had covid (even when it went through the rest of his house during Omicron - he was the only one who didn't catch it). But, I've also never had the flu either (that I'm aware of). I'm sure part of it is just pure luck even if they ever do somehow identify a reason why some of us are less likely to be infected.
But, I also know that this doesn't mean I will never get infected either. Everyone I know who's gotten covid this week (and it's quite a few people) were never infected before.

Interesting! Somehow the kids and I have escaped it thus far despite my husband having had it 3x and numerous workplace exposures for me + school exposures for kid #1 so maybe there's something to it. I work with kids and have been exposed to all sorts of colds and other virus so it's possible! I'm prepared for it to happen but still.
Huh. We haven't had covid yet. *knocks on all the wood* BUT, even though ds is in daycare, they've had relatively low exposure except for the one time they closed and everyone had it. DH is pretty diligent about wearing his mask around other people, and we upgraded his masks during omicron. I have very very little exposure to anyone.

This is really interesting. I haven't had covid yet that I know of, nor has anyone in my household. 3 out of 4 of us have been fully in-person in an elementary school since Feb 2021. The other person has been working partly in-person in a hospital setting for about as long. We never upgraded from cloth masks and one of the adults in the household never wore a mask unless mandated (don't get me started!). All of us are vaccinated and boosted and I break out the covid tests for every sniffle. I fully expected to get it with omicron, but we remained covid-free. Almost everyone I work with at school has had it (sometimes more than once). We dropped masks about a month ago at school, but there's been very little covid at school so far. I feel like we must have been exposed many times by now. I mean, I know my kids have been exposed (from friends/school). I also think it's unlikely that all four of us had asymptomatic cases...

This is fascinating! And I'm even more intrigued and confused about how COVID played out in our family. One daughter caught it, the other didn't. They're identical twins and shared a bedroom with bunk beds during the early infection days before DD1 tested positive. We separated them once we knew, but they are way more up in each other's faces than typical siblings. And genetically identical, so how did one body fight it off and the other didn't? It's just wild to think about.

That’s a super interesting article. Both my son’s teachers have tested positive. The most recent was 2 weeks ago. He was literally hugging her 2 days before she tested positive. They don’t wear masks here. I’m shocked we escaped that one.
Prior to Covid, my H, DS, and I were horribly sick when we were in Canada in December 2019. I wonder if that has contributed thus far to us avoiding anything. But I don’t think we’re immune or anything. I keep waiting for it to happen (and it’ll probably be before our upcoming travels).

Just popping in here to scream into the void… WHEN TF WILL THE UNDER 5’s GET THEIR VAX?!?!?
All the hype about Moderna submitting their data soon has all but dried up. I want an update. And if it’s just never gonna happen, JUST TELL US.
We’ve really been enjoying being able to get out and about a little bit post Omicron. I had so hoped the approval would come before the next surge, but now I guess we’ll just be locking down. Again. Ugh.
maddiepaddy I've just resigned myself to waiting until A turns 5 in Dec. Pretty soon it might be worth waiting anyway. So frustrating!
Mine is not even 2 yet 😭😭😭
Ugh, I feel that. I know we're lucky she's at least getting closer. But this needs to move faster! I'm trying to trust that they're trying to do the right thing, but I'm also highly impatient and frustrated for all of us with kids under 5 that have been left behind
A US District Judge overturns the mask mandate that was recently extended to May 3rd for planes and public transportation. Does that mean that the mandate can expire on 4/18 (today, the last expiration date)?
I have to take public transportation to work, and my county currently has a transmission rate of 141/100k. UGH. With the <5's still not vaccinated, this is all BULLSHIT.

Welp, with the mask mandate gone, I'm even more happy we decided to make our trip this coming weekend kid free. I think we'll still mask but I'm not excited for covid to likely hit us. FX my vaccines are working 🥴

I'm so glad we hadn't gotten around to booking our summer travel yet. I've been asking myself where I'd feel safe going. And now I know. Nowhere. Ugh. DH's sabbatical is this year and I feel safe going... nowhere.
