At least 13 shot or hurt so far. This station is a pretty busy hub since a bunch of subway lines in Brooklyn connect there. I used to transfer there all the time when travelling between Manhattan and Brooklyn. I hope all in the area are safe.

This is terrifying. And it is reminding me that the Supreme Court is going to likely make it a lot easier for people in NYC to get concealed carry licenses.
This is so scary. I posted yesterday about Columbine and donating money to March for our Lives on my private FB. Many will say it is too soon, but I had actually posted this before this happened, and with shootings every day now, I don't believe that "too soon" is the case anymore. I liked that they focused on multiple factors marchforourlives.com/forces/.

One of the staff at one of my sites would have been in that station at that time if she hadn't been scheduled to work a later shift today. She did make it in for her shift using detours but how scary.

I'm listening to one of the local news channels and the reporter is talking about "we don't know if this is an act of terrorism or a criminal act." Uhhhhhh, both? Those poor people in the subway looked terrorized as hell. Or do we have to find out if the guy is Muslim to determine if it's terrorism?

I am hoping that's not what they meant, but to be fair the FBI and other law enforcement agencies have recognized white supremacist and other far-right extremist groups as the most significant domestic terror threat. I assume "criminal" is code for "yet another mass shooting without a discernible ideological motivation".

Typically it’s good journalistic practice to wait for law enforcement to give something an official label, so they hedge a lot. This is also why they typically say “alleged” and “accused” even of someone is known to be guilty, but hasn’t accepted a plea or been officially convicted.
I'm seeing a lot of social media chatter about all the video cameras being broken, how the police were there and weren't able to stop it, and basically that something strange is going on.
