I'm trying to figure out what a residential home was valued at in 2004. Local tax assessment records only show back to 2017 and Zillow estimates go back 10 years but I need to go back further than that. There were no sales of this property so there's no transaction data around that time.
It's a long shot but has anyone ever come across a website that tracks this? Thanks

Did you try contacting the assessing office, or are you just going by what you found online? I would think the Assessor would have the historical assessment data, although it might take a little time to get it for you. (In my town, the older printed tax commitment books are in off-site storage.)

Thanks; I was just looking on the website; I didn't think to call and I'm sure the records are in that office somewhere. The deed from 1988 for example is on a microfilm at our RMC office. Hoping to come up with an estimate without having to go in person, and I'm definitely willing to guesstimate.
I agree that the Assessor's office should have this info. Otherwise, do you have any real estate broker friends? In both areas I've worked, the MLS records go back that far so I'd be able to see what similar houses were selling for at that time.
I see others suggested the tax assessor's office, you might have to go there as online they only go so far. That's how we determined the stepped up basis on my dad's house that was purchased in 1978.
