I'll be interested to see if this is how things roll out. Elon mentioned 1- getting rid of bots 2- making the algorithm open/share ware so we understand what content is being promoted or demoted 3- making sure only humans with a verifiable identity are on there.
In theory, these all seem like good ideas that would improve twitter, no? (disclaimer, I don't use twitter, but read a lot about it)
Making sure only humans with a verifiable identity will disenfranchise some and track everyone else. It's a sound good on layman's terms type of thing. To verify an identity you have to gather personal information-name, location, IP addresses and for a true verification identification cards.
It won't affect me much as the only place I even see Twitter stuff is retweet. I never got the appeal of such limited characters for a message.
Elon Musk plans to welcome back @realdonaldtrump back to Twitter if the deal goes through— and Jack Dorsey says it's the right call.
"It was not correct to ban Donald Trump," Musk told a Financial Times summit today. It was "morally wrong and flat-out stupid." "He's now going to be on Truth Social, as will a large part of the right in the United States. So I think this could end up being, frankly, worse than having a single forum where everyone can debate." Dorsey — the Twitter co-founder who was CEO when Trump was banned in January 2021 — called the ban a mistake.
"It was a business decision, it shouldn't have been. and we should always revisit our decisions and evolve as necessary," he tweeted to Axios Pro Rata author Dan Primack.

T was not banned out of opposition to “free speech”, he was banned for lying, actually lying which violated “community standards” which are written, posted, and transparent private corporate (America!) rules of conduct to use the product.
Yeah, Elon! Go for no-bots and all your wishes. What are you going to actually do when liars who lie … well, lie a lot on Twitter? And I mean A LOT. And unapologetically and over and over again?
And to be clear - ALL THE LIARS. Your fans, your foes, Ex-Presidents, current candidates, world leaders, etc. ??
Lolz...who here thinks that spam/fake accounts are <5%?
Also...how are we defining fake accounts? Like there's currently a jokeish twitter account for a roundabout in philadelphia with some ongoing controversy. Is that...fake? I'm certain the owner has a regular account where he posts as himself. And then there's the account where he posts as a traffic control device. So...

And will unfollowTrump still be allowed if he can return?
I was reading yesterday about how bananas this all is - tweeting the initial tender offer and now the pause, etc. Expect the unexpected with Elon Musk, but still surprising as he’s essentially tweeting their dirty laundry uncovered while doing due diligence.
The TL;DR was that many thought he wouldn’t go through with the purchase, and the stock price being below his offer is evidence that the market agrees. He’ll owe Twitter a $1B breakup fee if he walks away.
