Boston to Acadia NP/Bar Harbor itinerary help

We land in Boston on a Friday at 9:00am and leave the following Saturday. We plan to rent a car and drive to Acadia NP/Bar Harbor- any itinerary suggestions for stops or overnight stays between Boston and Acadia? We also want to plan a day or 2 in Boston - looking for suggestions on a place to stay in Boston.

An obvious suggestion would be Portland! We did Portland and Bar Harbor a couple of years ago and it was a great trip. Portland is really cute/pretty and has great food. Also tons of good breweries, which from your screen name I am guessing might be something you are interested in?

We stayed in an airBNB so I don't have any recommendations for hotels, though.
