What have you been reading this week? Any reviews/ratings/recommendations?
QOTW: If you could hang out with and pet any animal, what kind of animal would you choose? (Assume you do not have to be concerned about your safety or the animal's safety - you would magically be best friends haha)
I read The Book of Cold Cases. It was pretty good. I mean, it kept me engaged but obviously the paranormal stuff is pretty out there. I finished The Paris Apartment this morning. I was rather bored for 90% of it but liked the twist. In the end I gave it 3 stars.
Next up is Wahala.
QOTW: Anything big and furry like a big cat or bear. I could use a good cuddle.
I’m reading Make Your Home Among Strangers by Jeannine Capo Crucet, which is really good so far. I’ve been really busy and distracted this week but it has sucked me in anyway.
QOTW: any of the big cats but a snow leopard is my dream animal best friend. The wild small cats would be really fun too, though.
Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez (not good but not horrible)
Every Last Fear by Alex Finlay (bad)
Portrait of a Thief by Grace D. Li (not as great as I hoped but solid)
Deaf Utopia: A Memoir—and a Love Letter to a Way of Life by Nyle DiMarco with Bobby Siebert (interesting although I don’t watch reality tv and wish there had been less about that)
Blood Sugar by Sascha Rothchild (fun!)
The Blame Game by Sandie Jones (so bad)
Regretting Motherhood: A Study by Orna Donath
I Am Not Okay With This by Charles Forsman (I was not okay with this horrible book)
Notes on Your Sudden Disappearance by Alison Espach (I liked it)
Hello, Molly! by Molly Shannon (very good! I am not super familiar with her work but she has an interesting outlook on her life which has been full of difficulties)
QOTW penguins! I went to Brew at the Zoo once and got close but they wouldn’t let me snuggle

Just finished Ariadne. I really liked it! I was pleasantly surprised. Not sure what's up next, but possibly Well Played (sequel to Well Met, they are romance genre). ETA: Oops, I have Well Matched, not Well Played! I think they can be read on their own but I'll wait since this is the 3rd book! Picking up The Love Hypothesis instead!
QOTW: A dolphin for sure! Otherwise a fox or tiger. Wouldn't it be so comfy to snuggle up to a big, soft tiger?
The Broken Girls by Simone St James, 4*- I don't know that I'd recommend it to someone, but I found it entertaining. I almost didn't read this book because I didn't like The Book of Cold Cases.
Cemetery Road by Greg Iles- DNF
I'm currently reading The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Barnes and finding it entertaining so far.
Qotw: My mind only goes to a room full of puppies.

estrellita I haven't read Ariadne yet, it's still on my bedside TBR pile, but her new book Elektra comes out next month and I'm excited about that too.

Still reading Golem and the Jinni which I'm liking. Finished Ever Cursed which I LOVED. I'm very into this new school of fairytales where the princesses fight misogyny. I think I just like the idea of a world where it can be conquered. Started Dread Nation.

(Assume you do not have to be concerned about your safety or the animal's safety - you would magically be best friends haha) I have a thing for camels because I think they look like goofy muppets. I would like a camel best friend.

It's good! If you've read Circe, I liked Ariadne more (and I liked Circe a lot!). I'll have to look into her new book!

I think I bought it the day after I finished Circe, or at least within a few days.
The Other Wes Moore - One Name, Two Fates by Wes Moore. It’s a look at two men named Wes Moore who both spent formative time in Baltimore, and their incredibly divergent lives. The one who is not in prison for life is currently running for governor in Maryland. I found this very interesting.
Women in White Coats - How the First Women Doctors Changed the World of Medicine by Olivia Campbell. My god, the absolute shit these women went through. Fascinating, and thank goodness for their perseverance so that we all might benefit.
Also still working on the long version of Anne of Green Gables with my kids at night. It is taking a very long time.
QOTW: I’ll pick a panda. We went to the zoo yesterday and got to see the pandas. The baby was napping but the mother was very actively eating bamboo and seemed like a delightful creature, lol.
