Would you go with a contractor having only met with one for a quote? Full basement reno, it’s a complete blank- concrete walls/ floor right now.
It is impossible to get people to call me back, we’ve reached out to 7 companies and heard back from 2. One can’t even get here to give us a quote for a couple weeks. So we met with the one, really liked him, his quote is almost spot on to what I assumed it would cost, under what my husbands estimate was, and most importantly he’s done work for a friend I trust. I’ve seen it, it looks great, she’s very pleased and has had him back to do other projects since. I don’t really want to wait several more weeks to get a second quote as this guy is already booking into September but I’ve never just blindly booked someone without multiple quotes
I did this for our front porch addition last fall under the same circumstances. Called tons of contractors and only 2 got back to me for quotes. One ghosted after coming out to look at the project, the other gave me a quote for what I was expecting to spend and had good reviews / gave me good vibes. We went with him and had no regrets.
I think with the personal reference I would feel comfortable with this. I’m normally very cautious and prefer multiple quotes, but 2022 is a different ballgame. I know my contractor response rate was abysmal and I’ve had to wait 3+ months after signing a contract to even start my project.
Does the contractor have a company name you can search for google/yelp/FB/ND reviews?

Yes, and all excellent reviews!
i think I’m going to pull the trigger, thank you all!
I would and I have. If you get a good gut feeling and the price is right, go for it. Especially with a personal rec.
Ive done it for landscape/patio, doors, and painting. We just recently got on with a local window company for about 6 windows, and a contractor for our bar area and basement remodel. The window was a cold call I made and the contractor was a rec from a friend. You could just tell he knew what he was doing. We’ll see how both the next projects go, we’re in the schedule but not doing any work yet
The fact that you've seen his work first hand, your friend likes him enough to have him back repeatedly, and his price is on par with what you wanted would make this an easy yes.
