Dows anyone have experience with renting to travel nurses? I’m a new single woman homeowner of a 3 bedroom condo. I would like to rent out the master bedroom suite for some extra income to pay for future improvements.
I tried advertising on Facebook and the results have been, um, interesting. I am in a family friendly suburban area about 10 miles from the beach so desirable to many people. Unfortunately I’m not close to any universities or fun nightlife so the young professionals and students wouldn’t be as interested in my place. There are several military bases close by and three hospitals within a 5-10 mile radius. I’m limited to renting 30 days or longer due to HOA CC&R, so Airbnb short term visitors wouldn’t work.
I keep getting ads for Furnishedfinder.com, which specializes in medium term furnished housing for traveling nurses. You pay $99/ yr to advertise on their site and then you set up a rental lease separately with the individual nurse. The property management aspect is entirely is on the owner rather than interfacing through a third-party like Airbnb. I’ve watched some independent YouTube reviews and it seems to work if you are in a desirable space near a hospital. Just wondering if anyone has prior experience or cautionary tales?
I work for a company that places travel nurses so we're always helping them find housing. Furnished Finder is definitely one of the top resources we direct them to. There are some travel nurse specific Facebook groups for housing, but they can be a little dicey. We also have people find housing via AirBNB. You can do longer term rentals on there too.
I’ve haven’t done it, but I’ve heard of a lot of people using furnished finder.
If you are in a military area, reach out to any connections you have and see if they have ideas on base, or online specific military groups you or they could post an ad. Often a spouse may need a place to stay until they figure out more permanent housing or while their spouse is deployed (like if they don’t want to pay rent for a larger place while their spouse is gone and they will be transferring after they get back). Military families can typically break leases for deployment orders but I don’t think that would be much of a concern for a monthly rental.
You could also see if the local hospitals have places they post housing info.
sakoro sorry forgot to come back to this until now.
My aunt said that she and everyone she knows uses furnished finder for a place to stay when they are on a travel nursing assignment. Just confirms what other people have said above.
Thanks Jinkies! Good to know that’s still the best resource. I decided to furnish the primary bedroom and am following their suggestions for providing a TV, hairdryer, desk and drawer organizers etc. Fingers crossed for a good tenant!
Just an update for anyone who is still following— I found a travel nurse tenant through FurnishedFinder, they moved in on Monday and so far going well.
