Oklahoma Legislature Passes Bill Banning Almost All Abortions
The legislation would be the nation’s strictest, and relies on lawsuits from private citizens to enforce it. If the governor signs the bill, it would take effect immediately.
It defines an unborn child as “a human fetus or embryo in any stage of gestation from fertilization until birth.” Anti-abortion groups, believing abortion to be murder, have tried unsuccessfully since the Roe decision to pass federal or state legislation defining life as beginning at fertilization. Abortion rights supporters have argued that this would effectively ban contraceptive methods that prevent implantation, such as an intrauterine device, but the Oklahoma bill specifies that it does not apply to contraception.
Twelve Republicans broke ranks and joined with Democrats in backing the money.
On a separate bill, the House voted overwhelmingly to ease the burden on low-income parents by allowing the federal Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program — a major national purchaser of formula — to source it from more foreign suppliers. The vote was 414 to 9 with all the opposition coming from Republicans.

Oh, our mother fucking governor will sign it all right. I fucking hate it here.

every time I think those fucking hypocrites can’t go any lower, they prove me wrong. HOW CAN YOU CALL YOURSELF PRO LIFE WHEN YOU VOTE AGAINST A BILL THAT LITERALLY FEEDS BABIES?!?!
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

Because obviously a good mother would breast feed. Just not in public where it may offend someone (please not this is sarcasm font)

They're probably like the Boomers I see on social media saying, "I was nursed on cow's milk, corn syrup, and water, and I turned out just fine!"
I want so badly to reply to some of them, "... Did you though?"

Kind of like this? Also, I don't understand the (lack of) logic...if you look at the demographics of who gets/needs abortions, wouldn't that, in their theoretical logic, mean more democratic voters?? Do they think only white women who vote republican get abortions & they need to force them to have babies??
talkingpointsmemo.com/news/cpac-schlapp-replacement-abortion-ban The conservative leader’s argument directly aligns with white supremacists’ reason for joining the anti-abortion cause: To make white women produce white babies to offset the growing immigrant population.
Have these chucklefucks considered the fact that all of their "life begins at fertilization" nonsense will make many fertility treatments illegal??
And a lot of birth control. I believe many are coming for Griswold right after Roe.
And yes, some of them have considered that. For them it's intentional, because they don't support either of those either.
So basically their thought process is people who don’t want babies should be forced to have them and people who desperately want them but can’t have them shouldn’t be allowed? Not that it’s surprising but just so so dumb.

People should be forced to have babies SO THAT the people who want them can adopt them.

Women should want babies (but only within marriage to a man, and not too many if they aren't the 'right' women).
If they don't want kids, they shouldn't have sex.
If they do anyways (consensually or otherwise), they should be handmaidens who carry babies to term to be adopted by the 'right' people who want babies.

Oh no, no don't worry -- those poor and minority women forced to have babies they don't want just have to give them to rich white Republicans to raise so the babies are raised "right." /sarcasm

That means ordinary voters and their representatives will be forced to grapple with the moral — even metaphysical — quandaries at the heart of the abortion debate. What does it mean to belong to the human species, and when does that belonging begin? Is there a bright line at which an egg, a blastula, or a fetus attains the status of “person”? And how do we weigh the competing interests of mothers, families, and fetuses against one another? Those questions are the foundation on top of which abortion law and policy is built.

BUT- how will you feed those adopted infants without formula?!!! As someone who did adopt one of my children, I was able to do a lot of things, but spontaneously start lactating wasn't one of them.

Right?! Logic and reasoning are not the strong suit of the GOP. Maybe they're trying to bring back wet nurses?
Texas abortion funds are already seeing a major decrease in requests for funding, it was expected but I don't quite think we were prepared for the drastic decrease that has happened and now are very concerned about where people are going for procedures or what they are doing.

You didn't keep the birth mom in your attic as a wet nurse handmaiden?

Because of this shitshow, I've learned that there's a term for using other than human milk. Dry nursing. Goat, cow, sheep.
I know I don't need to say this here, but as much as I get the frustration with no homemade formula recommendations, it's just not safe which is why they just say don't do it! But I will say this because you may have people in your life asking. Cows milk has a shitton more protein. Cows also have 4 stomachs. (I'm leaving alone the Pasteur issue because of course we should!) Your grandma making evaporated milk with karo is not ok!
Yes it’s a good article! There is some controversy in this article in that at 9-10 weeks pregnant if someone self manages an abortion or has a miscarriage there can be a small embryo present, so people should be aware of that. We often can’t see the embryo when we do procedures which is what this tissue is from.
But patients will often ask to see the pregnancy after procedures and most of them are shocked at what I show them. Someone recently due to the stupid "heart beat bills" (please don’t call them that) thought they were going to see a fully formed heart after their 6 week abortion. When I showed them the tissue they were in disbelief. Most of the time it’s comforting for patient’s to see their pregnancies.
