I finished Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell, which was slow, atmospheric, and beautifully written. I enjoyed it but didn’t love it like I thought I would. Just started The Marvellers by Dhonielle Clayton — middle grade fantasy, so that will definitely be a change from Hamnet!
QOTW: I never had a childhood favorite Disney movie (I was a Muppets kid, which wasn’t Disney then). From the more recent offerings, maybe Frozen or the live action Cinderella.
I had a busy week! Lots came in from the library and I had a lot of time to read at the beach and did 2 audiobooks. I don’t think I’ve done an audiobook since I was a child.
The Adults by Alison Espach (good)
Vera Kelly: Lost and Found by Rosalie Knecht (great, not really a mystery like the first two Vera Kelly books)
So Help Me Gosh: A Memoir of Faith and Other Awkward Things by Brooke Barker (great and oddly a twist at the end!)
Dark Circles by Caite Dolan-Leach (fun ideas but a little scattered)
Go Ask Alice by Anonymous (lol)
The Summer Place by Jennifer Weiner (better than her last bad mysteries)
Adult Assembly Required by Abbi Waxman (i swear this book would change perspectives in the middle of a paragraph)
The Miranda Obsession by Jen Silverman (disappointing)
This Time Tomorrow by Emma Straub (I don’t think I’ve enjoyed her books before but really liked this one until the end when it sort seemed like she got tired of writing)
I finished Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe,2*. It was highly recommended online, but it didn't live up to my expectations. I am currently reading The Room on Rue Amelie by Kristin Harmel.

Just finished I Must Betray You by Ruta Septys (I might have spelled that wrong, lol). It was good, I'd give it 4 stars. I really like that the two books I've read from her are about events I don't know much about!
Currently reading The Magician King (2nd Magicians book) and listening to Educated.
QOTW: The Little Mermaid and The Lion King will always be my favorites. Of course now everything is Disney so I'm sure there are other movies I'm not thinking of. My favorite recent one is Encanto!
Earlier this week I read The Lioness by Chris Bohjalian. I really loved this. It was a quick, engaging read, and I enjoyed the structure. It did often feel like it was set in the 40s rather than the 60s but mainly because it felt very "old Hollywood."
Then I started Atomic Anna by Rachel Barenbaum. I was really excited to start this but have been either too busy or too tired to make progress. Hoping to fix that this weekend.
QOTW: I haven't seen many recent Disney films but I loved Sleeping Beauty back in the day.
I read Black Cake. I really enjoyed it though I thought the author's device of revealing important plot points through private investigations got silly.
I just started Notes on an Execution. Seems interesting so far.
QOTW: Oh that is tough to narrow down to one! I see several listed already that were favorites growing up - Parent Trap (I loved all the Hayley Mills movies - The Moon Spinners, Summer Magic, Pollyanna), Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King. To add, I also loved Aladdin.
My favorite later cartoon Disney films are Mulan and Moana. Encanto is also fabulous! I could watch all three over and over and over again and I have!
I’m listening to Apples Don’t Fall and reading Nature’s Best Hope (highly recommend this non-fic ecology/environmental/gardening book).
QOTW: I always think of only animated as Disney, despite watching every white packaged movie in the video store back in the day. I’d probably say Cars from more recent memory. Loved the parent Trap as well back in the day.

I finished Deathless Divide and To Kill a Kingdom. I liked Deathless Divide and have a love hate relationship with To Kill a Kingdom. The story was good and it had a lot of potential, but the terrible writing and plot development was really detrimental.
I started listening to Black Leopard, Red Wolf and it's really long. Like its due back tomorrow and I haven't finished it yet, still have 2.5 hours to go so I'm listening nonstop and having trouble focusing because I can't just enjoy the story with the pressure to finish.
QOTW: What is your favorite Disney movie? I love Emperor's New Groove, and the combo animation/real people movies like Pete's Dragon and Bedknobs and Broomsticks.
