Credit/debit card processing outage

Can't find anything in the news yet but I was at the grocery store and people were ready to riot.  Apparently systems are down for processing credit and debit cards, and only cash is working.  I was at Giant, but I've heard ShopRite and Lowes are down too.  Not sure if it's just east coast or what, but figured I'd give people the heads up before they head out!  If anyone has inside info let me know.

From what I saw it sounds like it was an issue at one of the big payment processing companies, not a card brand (visa, etc)

I was at ShopRite in New Jersey when everything went down. The guy on line ahead of me had problems and had to use the in-store ATM to get cash … I did the same because my groceries were already loaded onto the conveyer belt. There were only a couple people ahead of me to use the ATM so I got out pretty quick, and warned people who were on their way into the store.

I posted on a town FB group about it and someone said other NJ ShopRites were having the same issue. Someone said that she has multiple cards declined but her Discover worked.

We spent Saturday running errands. We went to World Market, Target and Daiso. When we got to Lowe’s they had signs that they were only accepting cash.

The person at Lowe’s told me it was a JP Morgan issue but I don’t know how true that is.

I’m in Southern CA.
