H and I just went for a walk with the dogs, talking about the absolutely horrific news in Texas and how scared we are for our kids. We round the block, close the door behind us, and shots start going off. My Ollie (10) was in the living room at the time. H thought it was fireworks, so he stuck his head out to look and 3-4 distinct gunshots went off and he slammed the door and told Ollie to get back to the basement and away from the windows. It was so, so many shots. Ollie was just yelling “is that a gun? Are those gunshots??” And then all the cops cars and sirens come. When things calmed down H opened the door to see what was going on and heard that at least one person was shot. I have no idea how anyone is.
My kids are terrified. Our daughter was in the basement and just thought it was fireworks until she heard Ollie crying and came up and saw the police lights. We’re all piled in our bed now watching TV to try to relax before bed. I emailed their principal to let them know because Ollie is scared he’s going to think about it in school and get upset.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

Oh, meganew. That had to be so scary. How are you doing right now? I’m so sorry that on top of the feelings most of us are feeling tonight, you’re also dealing with something like that.
The kids were feeling better by the time they fell asleep. I’m hoping they had a good day- their principal was going to talk with them this morning to check in. Just a ton of what ifs going through my head. We went to walk the dogs this morning and the little chalk circles around the shell casings were like 10 feet from our stoop.
