You need a velcro aussie like ours who love their abode. When old dog was a pup, she got startled on a walk around the neighborhood, pulled the leash out of my hands and bolted straight home. And when we've accidentally left the gates open, both of them just go out onto the front porch and peer inside like creepers
We're on holiday today and tomorrow - it's the Queen's Jubilee. It's interesting to see the various responses. Mine is that we're a country with more people using foodbanks than ever before and the money put into this celebration by the monarchy and gov't should be used to help them versus host a big pretty party.

They showed some video on the news last night of the Queen riding in what looked like a solid gold carriage and all I could think of crazy that seems in this day and age. And it is strange to me that she is so beloved. What does she actually do? Will the people love Charles when he's king in the same way?

I’m by no means a royalist…but the Royal Family does raise a lot of money and bring interest to many charitable causes. Many of the homes/cars/carriages have been passed down and are owned by the family (not purchased through public funds). They do cost the public a LOT of money, so your criticism is still very valid. I would not be surprised if the monarchy didn’t last past Charles or William. But I also wouldn’t be surprised if they manage to find ways to stay relevant and last a few hundred years or more.

She's not that beloved in the UK tbh, it's just very visual and a lot of people from overseas LOVE her. Many people in Scotland, Wales and N. Ireland are not joining in the celebrations in the way some of the English are. I do think some people respect her longevity. Her pardoning and giving money to pay for Prince Andrew's sexual assault charges to be dropped. Charles will not be beloved. He just doesn't have it in him. He may do some good things but I think a lot of people are just over having a monarchy when they appear to do nothing but spend money.
I have a couple of true randoms I thought I'd share because I have nothing else to keep me busy.
1. Is it possible to mend a fitted sheet? We have a set that H prefers and I already know I can't find a comparable replacement. The tear is right about where my feet rest at night. I keep my toenails very short so I'm not sure how it happened. Any tips for mending it?
2. Our neighbor just stopped by to ask if we had anything vibrating up against the wall our TH shares with theirs. She said she can hear it in their downstairs bathroom which would be kinda near our laundry room. There's nothing in that area that's making enough noise to cause a vibration like that. They had new plumbing put in recently. That's the simplest/most likely answer, right? I really hope it's not us. They're wonderful neighbors and good people. I'd hate to be the cause of any annoyance. But I also don't know how to track down the source of a vibration I can't hear 🤷♀️

1. If you really want to keep the sheets, I'd patch that part.
2. Both plumbing and laundry machines sound plausible to me. Could you find out when it happens? Ask if she can check when you run the washer and again when you run the dryer (v. when both are off)?

1. I don't really want to keep the sheets, but H doesn't want to just toss them. I'll shop for a patch... plenty of time to do that today 🙃
2. She said she heard it this morning and it was ongoing even after she turned off the water in that bathroom. At the time we weren't running any appliances except the fridge (of course that's always on and it doesn't sound any different than usual). H said he could hear it when he got up close against the laundry room wall. I'm pretty sure I just heard the fridge which is immediately adjacent.
I'm now running both the washing machine and the dishwasher and she hasn't come back over... such a mystery 🤔
I'm watching When Harry Met Sally for the first time (don't @ me) and it's so fricking charming. The orgasm scene is even better in context, overall - just adorable.

We're going to the Fingers Lakes in a few weeks with my family. This was originally supposed to be a trip to Italy in 2020 for two milestone birthdays. I'm really glad we decided to move locations since my dad ended up having surgery recently and certainly could not have flown. I'm just happy we'll still be able to do this and that he agreed to have a car service bring them there and back since it's a 5 hour drive.
MH and I are staying in Ithaca for a few additional nights. Not only is there a brewery almost directly across the street from where we are staying, they also have a on-site fried chicken truck. I cannot wait!
This may need an @, for a @related TV show reference, but no @ discussion
My office looks out on the street. I feel like the porch stood lady on Sesame Street, watching the world go by. But really, I just see one house. She was an original owner from 1968 and just moved to Texas to be closer to family. The for sale sign went up yesterday, and the estate sale pickup was yesterday afternoon. I spent all afternoon watching people carry her life out of the house. And I’m so annoyed I didn’t know the estate sale was an online auction, I knew (just from watching the activity) that it was coming. I looked at the results, her dining room table when for $60, but the chairs over $600. They were upholstered in 60s mustard yellow. The day it lists should be another interesting people watching day. I hope I don’t have meetings all day. 😂

I just got back from my trip. We tried to cover too many places so it was a bit hectic but not too overwhelming. I kind of wish we'd just focused on the French Basque Country but it was all amazing. If anyone is looking for a destination, I highly recommend it.

This is weird because I just (pun intended) this week read a Twitter thread by a guy who was watching WHMS for the first time lol
My car was broken into on Monday. They didn't take anything that I could tell. Today was the first day I got into my car and noticed things weren't right. I had to go through nour security video to see when it happened.
The reason I had to get in my car was because a dog had a medical emergency. She should be fine now.
I posted this in ML too but am cross posting here: Does anyone know of a part-time, WFH job with decent health insurance? I need to have a surgery and was hoping for minimally invasive but most surgeons who do it, don't take my insurance.

winecat, my actual job is pretty niche, but I work from home for a state university and only need to work 50% time to maintain my benefits. And they're amazing. So it may be worth checking in with any state universities near you to see if they have WFH positions available.
I must have jinxed myself with my post. First my dad decided a week ago that he wasn't up to going. Then MH got admitted with appendicitis on Sunday and had surgery. He's having a rough go of things so neither one of us is going on the trip.
We absolutely will not be trying to rescheduled to 2023!
It seems I have developed sensitivity to poison ivy. I have an itchy rash on the back of my left hand with blisters. Showed it to H this morning (who has always been allergic to it) and he said that's exactly what it looks like. Dr. Google says it is possible to develop sensitivity to it after repeated exposure. So... I am not happy about this latest rebellion from my immune system 😒
