Yes. And she was ornery. I’m not a fan of snapping turtles, but yes, we sucked it up and found a shovel to carry her around the house. And then I escorted her down the hill back to the water.

We found two holes that are her most likely egg nests on the side of the house. But, I can’t figure out how she got into the courtyard unless there is also a nest in the front yard. So now I’m wondering if I’m going to wake up one morning to a plethora of baby turtles in a similar dilemma. Unfortunately, the local foxes usually get the eggs 😭
edit *sigh* I’ve guilted myself into caring a slight bit more. There is now chicken wire over the nest.
rubytue, we have a turtle family that adopted us at our other property. One morning late last summer we had a bunch of babies around our pool. 2 of them were IN the pool; we got them out. I wonder if we'll see more at the end of this summer.

I got new glasses yesterday. They are also progressive but because they are a different shape and a different prescription, I'm struggling to adapt to them right now (wearing them today for the first time all day). I know my brain and eyes will eventually adapt but I feel a bit weird and like my eyes are off right now. Happily, this is a short week (we have Thur & Fri as holidays in the UK to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee), so at least I won't have to be too focused on computers this week.
rubytue, we had a HUGE snapping turtle show up on our front walkway during a rainstorm a few weeks ago. We think it might live in the drainage pond next to our house. Not only was it big, but they're a lot faster than you think.
Also, I'm doing 2 interviews this morning because my boss requesting we interview more people. Neither person has the experience that we need and the resume reviewers scored them low. So I feel bad because to me, an interview means you showed experience in your resume, but they didn't. So my boss is basically giving these people false hope.
Maybe I'm wrong and they'll wow me, but I haven't had it happen yet, so call me a cynic. The one guy that did have a decent resume is doing a completely different job and didn't want to shift focus to our market.
Stepped off my back step into a hole. The hospital staff had a disagreement on whether I broke my ankle or not, so splinted me and said follow up with another doc. Then they gave me crutches because they didn't listen that I rolled my other ankle, too. So just a cluster of a weekend.
I went for a walk yesterday morning and a small off leash dog came running towards me. I caught her and called the phone number on her tag. Turns out the front door had been accidentally left open and neither owner knew she'd gotten out.
I should have taken the time to heat the flour for the cookie dough so it wasn't raw. This was a great brownie recipe. My mom's recipe calls for chocolate syrup, which I have a hard time finding most of the time. I think mixing the cocoa powder into the melted butter had the same effect - they were really moist and fudgy.

I planted dahlias for the first time last year and loved them so much that I planted 7 different varieties of dinner plate dahlias this past weekend. I can't wait until July when they all start blooming.

That happened with our dog a few years ago. The last person out the front door didn't pull it shut all the way and our dog decided to go have an adventure. I was upstairs folding laundry and had no clue until someone was bringing him back home. Fortunately he found a dog friendly neighbor with a spare leash.

Same-ish. I had my desk set up on the back patio. Dog was with me in our fenced yard. Fed ex delivered something behind our gate, and I guess it didn’t latch. Some time later, I hear a voice calling out asking if I lost a dog. I was like “nope, she’s right….. at the end of your leash 😳😳😳” Little stinker ran right up to neighbor, let her put a leash on, and the led the neighbor back to our yard.

I was just curious do dogs typically not know where their homes are? Get lost? All the dogs I’ve owned know where their house is. But I see a lot of posts about dogs that get out around here, but don’t seem to know to go home or where home is.
Even if our dog got out she would stay nearby, never run away and come when called. But of course we don’t let her run around in this area.

I suspect it’s people that don’t walk their dogs much. Dog is mostly limited to the backyard, and when they get out the run and explore. But, haven’t ever walked home. Our dogs get such regular walks, they have their own way to let us know they are almost home. Our GSD would start dawdling when we got a house or two away 😂. Our JRT makes the turn up the driveway even if we keep going.
one of our trainers mentioned that dogs that get daily walks are less likely to go crazy and run around far from home when they get out. Something about already have new stimulus and less urge to explore, because they get regular stimulation - that is, their world is not limited to 4 walls an a fence 🤷♀️
And I know all breeds and dogs are different. Ours can be stubborn but she’s very smart. Even driving to a park to walk, she remembers where we parked our car.

I've experienced two scenarios for this. First is a dog that is new to the home - foster, recent adoption, recent family move, etc. Second is a breed or specific dog personality that just likes to fucking up and leave. Scent hounds are notorious for this. Sled dogs can be too - and they can cover some ground and be REALLY far away before they get bored. Or just REALLY FRIENDLY STUPID DOGS.
there was a new foster beagle loose in my neighborhood for two days and it was a full town effort to track her down. Emails and facebook posts like hourly with sightings and updates, but she is in fact a beagle so when she finally decided she wanted to come back she sniffed her way back and let herself back into the same hole she escaped from in the back fence to begin with.
My brother's malamute mix would just decide he had somewhere to be. He might have been able to find his way back, but he was really friendly so eventually he'd get bored I guess and wander up to somebody on the street, who would bring him back and give us shit for losing him. And then we'd build a yet more elaborate fencing+chickenwire contraption in the backyard. Which he'd dig up and then leave again as soon as one of us was dumb enough to leave him in the backyard unattended. He did it about 3 times before getting picked up by animal control and taken to the pound. He never did it again after that...I think the pound was terrifying.
And then finally in that category 2B was my old boxer. Our yard isn't fenced and he had good recall, so he was able to just run around out there and I didn't worry about it much as long as I had half an eye on him. But there was a period where I was VERY easily distracted and fatigued (@) where a few times I forgot he was outside (like was out there with him, had to run inside in a rush, then totally forgot I'd left him out there) and he took those opportunities to just go visiting. woudl bebop his merry ass over to all the neighbors and just see who was home and wanted to pet him. My one neighbor brought him back to us allllllllllll riled up accusing me of neglecting him because she offered him food and he WOLFED it down. I was like, lady, I'm really sorry he left my yard, and thank you for bringing him home, but you've been played. I could feed him again every hour on the hour and he'll still eat it like that. My childhood boxer would do the same damn thing. We had neighbors who would let him in their house to hang out knowing full well he was AWOL because they liked him.
Just to make my morning, my work keyboard o l and period keys are not working this morning. Given they are in a line, I assume there is a broken wire of something. I did a 2 hour curbside order from target, so I just need to make it to lunch sending as few emails as possible. I’ve been ^c and ^v some Os and Ls. But with a few office friends, I’ve resorted to things like 2, u, and 1s for Ls. This pains my 47 year old self.

I hope you are ok.
Thanks!
My H, who is the master of being temporarily mobility impaired, scrounged up a knee scooter for me to borrow which has helped. I have a specialist appt today to see what I actually did to that ankle. Since I've been completely off it, it's feeling pretty good.
wawa , our dog is a Blue Heeleer, our only other dog was a lab/ husky mix, and he would chase deer in a rural area, but he always came back/ knew where his home was also.
My cat totally tries to get the neighbors to feed him and tries to get into their house. He's not fat but a very big tomcat (nuetered but still that classic tomcat look), so its very obvious that he gets fed ha ha.
I have one dog that would come home on her own immediately. I have another that would probably wander back when he was ready. The final dog would never come back on her own as she is dumb as a box of hair.

Sometimes dogs will just take off if they're scared or startled by something too. Our neighbors like to set off fireworks all.summer.long (don't get me started), and we have to be careful with Red Dog because if she hears it she will try to bolt in fear.
