Anyone want to log their May workouts? We missed April so feel free to throw those in there, too. What were the highlights of what your wonderful body did for you? Plans or goals for June?
While my body is still recovering from the blood clot, I've gotten really good fitness strides the last 8 weeks. I have a few races coming up that I only want to feel good about the race and push it as hard as I can.
Last Sunday I did a half marathon in Boston. The heat got to me; I had many issues. I was told to cut the course by a bit because I wasn't going to make the cut off and the official was worried about me in the direct sun. I cried; but did as I was told. I was then walking and didn't feel well. I stopped to ask for some help; State troopers gave me ice cold water, brought me into the shade, and held cold water bottles on me. They evaluated me and told me if I walked; I could continue the race. They also gave me a direct route back to the finish if I didn't want to go back on the course. I was really upset and wanted my medal. They encouraged me to "finish" and then complete the miles I missed when I got home.
I kept plowing forward and completed 10 of the 13.1 miles. I did accept a medal, and then I did the extra 3.1 miles with a friend about an hour later.
I am proud of myself for moving forward and completing the 3.1 miles after what I had gone through during the race itself. A lot of my friends said they would have just given up.
April 2022 totals: bike 54.41 mi, run 34.8 mi, walk 3.6 mi, hiked 10.9 mi, swam 282 laps (3.91 mi), yoga once, did something 22/30 days Highlights: running through the local blooming bluebells and a really great family hike in New Hampshire
May 2022 totals: bike 40.01 mi, run 50.85 mi, walk 1 mi, swam 160 laps (2.2 mi), lifted 12x2 exercises, did something 18/31 days Highlights: finishing another half marathon, and not getting Covid (PSA - don’t be afraid to mask at a wedding, even if you feel a little alarmist at the time… so many of my family members got it, despite being vaxxed and testing in advance, and the only real difference I can discern is that I was somewhat consistently wearing a KN-95).
