I recently finished Indelible City by Louisa Lim. It is part history and part memoir about Hong Kong and Hong Kong identity. I thought it was great and anyone who has any in what is happening there should read it, but I know this is pretty niche.
I'm currently reading State of Terror by Louise Penny and Hillary Clinton. It is a pretty decent political thriller!
I just started "A Little Life". I'd be interested to hear from anyone who's read it. The writing is good but it's an ebook and I didn't realize it was so long!

There has been a lot of discussion of A Little Life in recent monthly threads. I think the book has a lot of major problems, but many, many of people really love it.

It’s been a busy month so I have not had much time to read. I finished up Truly, Madly about Janet Leigh and Laurence Olivier. I really didn’t know anything about their lives or her mental health struggles. Hearing about their experience both in the US and UK during WWII was interesting.
I needed something quick and light so I read both The Setup and The Summer Job by Lizzie Dent and enjoyed them both for like a summer beach read or audiobook .
Now I’m reading Apples Never Fall and it’s really good so far!
@ I’m also listening to a couple of parenting books while I clean house. One I stopped because I want to listen to it with DH. Easy to Love, Difficult to Discipline and No Drama Discipline. The first talks about self-discipline and the second redefines what discipline should mean.
Can you tell my 6 year old has a way spicier personality than his older brothers and I have a tween?!

It’s very, very long. It’s the most impactful book I think I’ve ever read. It’s a difficult read but I think it’s worthwhile.
I am a mystery person and I read the latest book by Grisham which was a 3 short stories, I hate short stories. I am hoping he will make full books out of the 3 short stories, I feel like there is a lot more to tell. I like reading James Patterson bc it's like a beach book, easy read. he made some very disturbing comments last month and I don't want to read him but I don't want to "punish" his co-authors. I like a lot of his co authors and I know he's not really writing his own books these days and I hate the fact his name is on them, I'm trying to find a way out. I hope his co's start writing on their own.
Just finished That Summer Place by Jennifer Weiner. It reminded me a little of that book, hmm...I just read...Paper Palace maybe? Lady swims across the lake to her old teenage love. Anyway, I enjoyed it. I found most of the characters loathsome but it was still an enjoyable read.

Is that a new one by her? (****spoiler****) I swore her off after she killed off Cannie's husband but she is from Philly and I'm a south jersey girl so she can't keep me away too long even though I hated what she did to the husband.

Yes! Its the 3rd in a series of (very) loosely connected characters in Cape Cod. No Cannie! I hated that too. I've generally enjoyed her books and I can't stay away either. When she wrote GIB I was 24 years old so Cannie was my everything - esp. since I was living and working in Philly just like her. I feel like JW has come of age with me, so I'm very fond of her. I even saw her speak at my local library.

Just finished The Huntress by Kate Quinn, which I liked. I couldn't get through Lost Roses by Martha Hall Kelly (the 2nd book in the Lilac Girls series.) I also finished Verity. It has good reviews, but I was just kind of meh about it. It was twisted, but not in a good way...at least to me. I'm still reading the Lost Apothecary. I need to step away from historical fiction for a while.
I’m about 60% through Memphis by Tara Stringfellow. I wasn’t sure about it when I first started, but it’s really grown on me. I’m very much enjoying it.
