Not new but there are travel advisories for people cautioning them about gun violence in the US and around the time this was released I remember at least 3 countries (Japan, Germany, can’t remember who else) put travel advisories about us too.
Jesus H. Christ. This is my biggest fear working in a hospital. My coworkers and I regularly talk about the hiding spots we have picked out around the unit for if/when this happens to us. This country is beyond broken.
At least four people were killed Wednesday in a shooting on a hospital campus in Tulsa, Oklahoma, police said in a news conference Wednesday evening.
The gunman is also dead, police said. Authorities believe the shooter's gunshot wound was self-inflicted, Tulsa Police Department Deputy Chief Eric Dalgleish said in the news conference.

Again. Of course again.
Side note: we're related to the Deputy Chief. H is from Tulsa.
It's literally never going to stop. What the actual fuck. <--That's rhetorical, in case that isn't obvious.

Strangers when I lived in Japan would come up to me to ask how they can visit and avoid gun violence. There's so much in USA they want to see, and they're afraid.
They're not wrong to be terrified even if on the grand scale it's highly unlikely they'd be a target. Even living in "good" neighborhoods I've had to call police because of heard gunshots. And I've had police run through my yard in pursuit. I've found bullet casings in my front yard. And I carry on because that's just life. Try telling that to someone from a country that actually bans guns. We are the proverbial boiled lobster (crab, frog, whatever is your analogy). But, to them, I just say travel as normal, watch your pocketbook, put your fear aside because there is a lot of great.

As they should.
There was a dust-up on ML some time ago with people arguing over whether it was “safe” to go to Mexico. Meanwhile, the irony is that most countries are looking at us, appalled that you could be working in a hospital, buying groceries, going to school, going into your office, praying in a church, riding the subway, checking into an airport, sitting on your front porch … and all of a sudden gunshots break out with a high-velocity machine gun and there’s carnage everywhere.
Can we think of any other country where that would happen on the regular where Americans wouldn’t be afraid to travel?

We hosted an exchange student this year, and when I asked her what she liked and didn’t like about the US, guns were what she didn’t like. We’re hosting another student next year, and I’m almost tempted to text her and be like, are you sure you want to come?

we went to mexico a few years ago, to a smaller town outside of cancun where a few months earlier there had been some sort of f'd up gang situation that culminated in an explosion. I forget the details, if it was a grenade type thing or something else, but really kind of a fluke for what is otherwise a very quiet place. But my MIL googled the place when we told her we were going and expressed concern about our safety. I had to be like....have you compared to our local violent crime stats by chance? because we're FAR more likely to get mugged or carjacked at the inner harbor than in this town, and we go to the inner harbor all the time. It's fine.
I hate that this happened. Earlier this year, there was a incident in Texas where a deranged patient went back to a dental office and shot and killed two dentists who had seen him earlier that day or week. Basically, nowhere is safe anymore. This is horrible.
But every time, I need to know. Were there good guys with guns before the police got there? Is Oklahoma one of the states where it is totally normal to carry a gun in your purse? The story linked above didn’t indicate, but it might still be too early to know.

Yes, Oklahoma is an open carry state. No, it’s not “normal” to carry a gun in your purse.
I had read he was upset about pain he was having after back surgery and assumed it was a long chronic issue and he couldn’t cope or something but then I read the surgery was just 5/19? So like a couple weeks and he decided this doctor needed to die?
We might not have to ban guns, maybe just ban men from owning them since they can’t handle their god damn emotions.
I want to go way further but a waiting period might have done a lot of good in this situation. But no, only a certain segment of the population requires waiting periods for something else because they can’t emotionally handle their decisions.

I mean, how many of these fucking shootings have happened the same day or within a couple of days of a purchase? Waiting periods wouldn't fix this, but they might help. Jesus.
I was at Walgreen's today and there was a guy walking around with a backpack. He was acting a little odd. And my very first thought was whether he had a gun and where I would run if he started to open his backpack. This country is a fucked up place.

I agree, and I was thinking at least weeks-long waiting periods, not days, but buying an AR-15 and using it hours later? Such an easy fix but will obviously not happen.

Yep. And social media should be part of background checks during that waiting period.
