Charles' support of homeopathy forms my initial dislike. I haven't moved past it.
I have family members born under imperial rule. Queen's highways abound in their country (no, she never visited that island, and "highway" is definitely a stretch. It doesn't fit 2 golf carts). They had a love for her as she was their sovereign all their lives. It's hard for me as an American to understand. But I've lived in enough royal countries to kinda get it. This weekend is yet another royal holiday. Most people just like the time off work.
reins. Reins are used to steer horses. You rein something in, or take the reins. They're both riding/driving metaphors.
I do find it fascinating that countries are gearing up to just drop out of the whole shebang. How does that work? like...do they have to ask permission? Or just say they're doing it knowing full well that in this year 2022 it's not like a warship is goign to show up to tell them otherwise.
Take the Reign actually kinda works in this situation
I was going to make a joke about the typo but it sounded bitchier than I intended, esp since I think it's kinda funny.
That's fascinating. Is William more well-liked than Charles? I feel like Kate is well liked, but not sure about William. But I'm curious how the fallout from what happened with Meghan and Harry affected that.
It was so interesting on the news last night, they referred to Harry and Meghan as "Duchess Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry". I thought it was fascinating that she got first billing! Usually it is the other way around.
William and Kate haven't had bad press or scandals like Charles has. I get the impression people don't really care for Camilla either. The bigger issue is that Charles is 73, so he would only reign for ~20 years max.
Whaaaaat? Maybe not as much bad press, but William had his own cheating scandal with that Rose woman. They're all terrible. Yes, even the sweet old lady Queen.
I don't think that Will is all that popular. It's just that he is more popular than Charles. I don't think that either one has the capacity for improving public favor because they don't know how to interact with the public well enough. I expect more and more countries to leave the commonwealth, and the BRF to stick more to the UK over time.

We are hosting a jubilee party on Sunday for the local British ladies. It’s looking like about 20 of us of all different ages.
We’re about to change out the American bunting from Memorial Day to British Bunting. We’re having all British food (which is exciting in itself) and we have a life size cut out of the Queen. We had her on the porch for the Memorial Day parade and so many random people wanted pictures with her - it was great fun.
A lot of the women haven’t been able to get home for the past couple of years due to Covid so it’s really nice for us all to get to celebrate the Queen and our heritage together. I can’t wait for the sausage rolls and flapjacks. : )

Camilla is probably one of the hardest working royals (aside from Anne and maybe Charles) and has honestly very quietly rehabbed her image over the last 15 or so years. People really don't dislike her as much as they did 20-25 years ago, as evidenced by the Queen feeling like she could come out and say she hopes Camilla will be accepted as Queen Consort when Charles is King. The Queen wouldn't have said that if it was still highly controversial.

Curious if you know this since you’re well versed on the Royals.
I frequently see Kate referred to as “The Duchess of Cambridge” and Camilla referred to as “Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.”

Any idea why the are titled differently?
Her official title is Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. I suspect they just call her “The Duchess of Cambridge” because she prefers Kate over Catherine….but she can’t really be called “Kate, Duchess of Cambridge.”

Reports are though that the queen released that statement in exchange for Charles agreeing to help pay Andrew’s settlement for raping Virginia Giuffrie. I think the Queen basically agreed to trade on her goodwill to help her favorite so .

I had a cut out at my wedding of her and it was SO much fun! Casual beach wedding that a friend brought. Good stuff!

Interesting! But why would the Queen need Charles to help pay off the settlement? I know the Duchy of Cornwall is sizeable but doesn't QEII have more private assets? Or is her personal riches in property and not cash (compared to what belongs to the crown)?

I am curious to see what the monarchy will look like after QEII passes. Charles is full of issues and doesn't have nearly the same popularity as his mother. Will is also problematic and it's only getting worse as he ages i.e. this grotesque tour in the Caribbean. I really hope most countries leave the commonwealth after QEII dies. Canada and Australia/NZ probably never will but it's not that important.
This is an odd assumption to make both Canada and NZ have talked about it in the past and Australia has a new Assistant Minister for the Republic, they will need a referendum to get it through though

I think it would be pretty unlikely that Canada would leave, at least right away. There are a lot of things keeping us in the Commonwealth with the Queen as our head of state (not all Commonwealth countries have her as head of state). Obviously our political system is a big reason, but there are other cultural factors that bind those ties. It's complicated to explain - we don't want to be British but we especially do not want to be American. I think for the anglophone population, those ties to Britain oddly help reinforce our sense of cultural autonomy.
I could definitely see Australia leaving though. I think they have even had referendums on it in the past.

I very highly doubt this is accurate. 1) this sounds exactly like the kind of story that a tabloid would print and 2) as was already pointed out, the Queen has more private money than Charles does. She doesn't need his help.

Yes Australia had a referendum in 1999 that barely passed to stay. I'd say they're a goner pretty soon, but that's just my opinion.
He is so cute!! I can't stand all the internet warriors diagnosing Louis with autism and ADD, or alternatively saying that Kate is a crappy mother. I thought he did pretty amazing for a four year old!

If I had to do something that boring with a four year old, he would have a million snacks, toys, crayons, and books. I imagine those were not seen as an option, so of course the kid is going to be full of beans!
I am no Kate stan, but all the hot takes on Louis’s behavior/Kate’s parenting are driving me insane. He was being rude no doubt. And she handled it the best she could fully knowing it all was being captured.
We now know why Louis is not included in a lot of events. Still to little!!

Right? I find it very difficult sometimes to calmly discipline my 3 year old when she acts out in public, without losing my cool. Thank God I don't have to worry about 5 million cameras watching me/lipreaders analyzing my every word.

I was sweating for her in solidarity lol. Anytime I see a kid lose their shit, I just start reflexively sweating. 😂 So many memories…..
