I feel sick. One of the Iowa senators (Ernst) was just making the rounds yesterday talking about how she's such a huge supporter of 2A and hesitates to support anything that might infringe on that right.

@@ (College) We live close enough that I know a lot of kids that go to ISU, and several who go/went to Cornerstone. This is a popular place for the college students to attend. Almost everyone we know is home/elsewhere for the summer, so I'm not worried it's anyone I know, but I'm sure it's an extra layer of fear for my friends who have students there. ETA: I actually do know someone whose college student was there. They're safe, but likely forever changed. I wish more people talked about those who are present at these shootings, but "unharmed." That's bullshit. Not one person walks away from those situations "unharmed." 

Add this to the news that a former HS classmate and his gf were shot and killed by the gf's XH, and it's been a rough day. (We weren't friends, but knew of him & his family.) I even had a dream last night about watching TV in a home and hearing a gun shot.

It seems people have lost so much of their ability to cope with things. (I include myself in that.) Take away coping skills, add extra stressors and a gun, and this is going to continue to happen more and more often until we actually DO something about it.

Lilac05, glad your friends are "ok".

My sister had friends who went there in college but as far as she knows, none of them are around anymore.

This church is very conservative and fairly awful (not saying they deserved this!). From what I know there is likely a large overlap with guns rights beliefs. I wonder if the only way we will get change is for it to happen to the pro-gun people. A large church maybe had an ability to impact Ernst? Probably a pipe dream.

This was a “targeted act of violence.” One of the victims was in a previous relationship with the shooter, and had just filed a restraining order against him. Victims were two college students. Shooter was in his 30s.
