I review books every other month in a publication for senior citizens of a certain faith. I am not that faith, but I mention it because since it is faith-based, I try not to include anything too steamy or gratuitously violent or political. I need to come up with three books for next month, and for some reason, I’m struggling. Here are some I have done recently (can be fiction or nonfiction and new or old):
Just Mercy Dutch House Four Winds American Sherlock The Light of Days The Lazy Genius Kitchen The Next Right Thing I’m Still Here Girl With the Louding Voice A Walk in the Woods Clutter Free Home What Happens in Paradise Wish You Were Here
Do you have any recent or favorite reads you’d recommend I read and review?
Are WWII historical fiction acceptable? Kristen Harmel books are pretty clean romance-wise. Main characters are Jewish Women if that is a good fit. My favorite was the Book of Lost Names.
Louise Penny books Kate Morton books
Big Lies in a Small Town by Diane Chamberlain Finding Dorothy by Elizabeth Letts
The book I just finished, Crying in H Mart, might be interesting for seniors because it describes a daughter saying goodbye to her mom who has cancer, and then grieving. While it also describes anger and disagreements between mother and daughter, ultimately, it's a little slice of Millennial love for their generation.
Secrets of Happiness, by Joan Silber, is also told from the vantage point of older people. Although it talks about affairs and LGBTQ relationships - I'm not sure if their religion would approve - it's not graphic. Joan Silber is a wonderful writer that doesn't get enough attention, IMO.
Oh, William and Lucy by the Sea, the newest two books by Elizabeth Strout, are also told from the vantage point of an older woman looking back on her life and choices. Some of those choices were definitely not "religiously correct," but again, nothing graphic.

Those are mostly historical fiction and should have minimal language or graphic scenes, if any.
