Oz officially won the R nomination- will be against D nominee John Fetterman. Oz won by 940 votes (out of 1.3 million cast). He is a baffling candidate for me, so I hope that means easy to beat and he won't draw people out to vote.
Meanwhile, Fetterman suffered a stroke May 13th and wife stated yesterday he won't be back on the campaign trail until July. Also his cardiologist came out and said this wasn't an unknown condition which he has acknowledged.
I hope the stroke doesn't affect his campaign. I honestly don't think that staying off the campaign trail for two months will hurt all that much. He campaigned very hard, and very effectively, across the entire state for the primary. He (and Giselle, and his dogs LOL) have an extremely engaging social media presence that probably reaches more voters than he would in-person anyway. He is hugely popular, as shown by the wide margin that he won the primary. Oz, on the other hand, barely got the nomination and has more of an uphill battle even among Rs.
When I think about my relatives in central and western PA, I see them relating to Fetterman so much more than Oz. Obviously not for people who blindly select the R's no matter what. But I think there are a lot of mid-state folks who will see themselves in Fetterman's carhartt-and-hoodie vibe.
I think he has as good of a shot as any at winning the seat.
Meanwhile....Oz doesn't even reside in PA and is registered as a voter in NJ. What the what?
Right. It's ridiculous and I don't understand how it's even allowed. I want to say that Oz winning was a best case scenario for dems, but I'm pretty sure I said that about Trump in 2015 so I no longer make political predictions.

I don't live in PA but tbh I'm pretty worried that Fetterman hasn't been campaigning (at least not enough to garner national coverage.) I'm afraid the Rs will cast doubt on his fitness for office with innuendo alone. Which is all it takes.
Fetterman is an interesting candidate. He’s pretty progressive but also seems to be able to attract some of the Pennsyltuckey voters. I hope he can pull it off.

I’ve very worried about the governor’s race.
I love Shapiro. I was doing state advocacy work back when he was a state rep and worked closely with him and his office for several years. He is just a warm, genuine, caring human and would be so good for the state.
Mastriano is a piece of shit and I am very afraid of what he would do as governor.

Exactly. I also know and love Shapiro and I hope he wins. I’m terrified for what happens when he doesn’t.

I am so disappointed about Fetterman winning- he has never fully apologized for pulling a gun on the unarmed Black jogger. He also always looks like he rolls out of bed. His stroke and his lack of active campaigning is also concerning. But he is better than Oz.

He was definitely not my candidate (I knew mine wasn't going to win but I think that's what primaries are for) and what you pointed out is very hard for me to look over.

And he completely ignores the question on social media. He will answer a ton, but always avoids that one.

You guys are absolutely correct. We should just let Dr. Oz win and let the Republicans keep this Senate seat, just to stick it to Fetterman. That'll be the best solution. Thank God that you guys were here to point this out to everyone!

How many black people did Oz kill with his shitty medical advice? How many white people took Oz's shitty medical advice about Covid and then spread Covid to black people?

There is nothing wrong with pointing out shitty things he did and being critical. There are people that aren't even aware of this, and i feel like it's good info to know. I'm still voting for him, but am allowed to be pissed at this.

Could you maybe not play Racism Olympics in here? Especially considering you agreed that a black man isn't "electable" for this seat just a few weeks ago...in the same post you completely ignored the incident with Fetterman that's being discussed.

I'm going to double back when I get an article to link but I thought he did address it but more or less doubled down which I think is worse (I feel like DTJ brought it up when he was campaigning for Sean Parnell early on). He likely thinks it's been handled already.

I completely agree, and I did not vote for him in the primary for that and other reasons (I voted for Malcolm Kenyatta). And although Fetterman won the primary in a landslide, I fear that this incident WILL keep some progressives from voting. The stroke also happened just days before the primary, which, while better than days before the general, was tough since so many people had already dropped off their ballots. Although, honestly, if Fetterman doesn't win then things are really bleak for all Democrats in the midterms. Which they may be anyway, but an open Senate seat in PA is a tossup, essentially, so when it comes to GOP-leaning areas...

Re Oz and Oprah. She should have denounced his harmful pseudoscience years ago. FFS he was already in the senate in hot water over his bullshit. Oprah was silent then, and I'd put money she'll be silent now.
I will vote for Fetterman. He was not my first choice by a long shot; I voted for my second choice in the primary.
I do think he had some cross-over appeal with people in the fly-over sections of the state based on his brand and ability to physically intimidate but this on-going recovery from a pacemaker is worrisome. For me, knowing this was a pre-existing condition that he ignored for years doesn't exactly speak to prudent decision-making. I'll still vote for him.

Dr. Oz misspelled the name of the town he supposedly lives in, and the physical address he listed on his statement of candidacy is a commercial/industrial complex (the area is close to me and I drive by it frequently).
